TEDx ... and Menu Planning for Five Days

I don't know why the dogs were so interested in Chris Van Tulleken giving a TEDx Talk all about Ultra Processed Food ... but they were.

It's here if you want to see it for yourself, it's very interesting ... although Ginger the cat obviously didn't think so.  😄

Anyway I was originally coming on here to show this weeks menu plan.  It's a very simple plan this week, my main aim was to get the large tub of homemade vegetable stew out of the freezer, using it once as it is and again as a filling inside the two 'pie lids' that I have frozen.  After all a pie lid can be rolled a little thinner and turned into a pasty in the blink of an eye.  😀

I've decided that having a five day menu plan is a better idea for me as something nearly always comes up that means I have to miss one of the days midweek, and it's good to have a couple of 'free' days to be able to move things to if necessary or to be able to eat leftovers on.

I wrote the freezer inventory out again to update it as there were so many crossings out on the original and a couple of things had been added.  As you will notice from yesterday's post this new one is already out of date as I haven't added the pots of tomatoey sauce that I made over the weekend.

There now they have been added.

Now that it's bang up to date I just have to carry on with it and try not to let it be ignored.  It is a useful thing to do as it saves me rummaging through all the drawers to find things when I need  them.  I'm also enjoying having a little bit of space in the freezer at last, and it means that I can start to batch cook things soon.  I ate the Mac n' Cheese ready meal for my tea the other day, it was okay but not brilliant and the list of ingredients was not good, I can make much better myself with a bit of thought.

Maybe I should join the animals and re-watch the Chris VT talk again to keep me on the straight and narrow.  😀

  1. We had homemade pizza last night using a flatbread from the freezer as a base and it was a real treat. I need to see what else is lurking and finally do an inventory! Catriona

    1. A flatbread pizza base is such a tasty idea isn't it, and it makes for a lovely quick meal and a good way to use up all sorts of leftovers from the fridge. I vary it up and sometimes instead of a tomatoey sauce first I use hummus, it's delicious.

  2. Your meal plan sounds good. I made a meal plan, too, for this week, based on what I have on hand.

  4. Agree about meal planning, if I do a week it goes awry because of the need for the occasional free day. 5 days is good. Isn't it funny when the pets watch TV.........I don't credit our westie with being particularly bright but he often watches a bit of telly as if he almost understands what's going on!

    1. It seems to be making better sense to have the five day meal plan, with the seven day one I was either missing meals off or having too many to roll forward to the next week. The animals all love watching television, anything with animals or birds in it usually, so why Chris Van Tulleken just talking grabbed the dogs attention so much I have no idea! Mavis is the only one that can focus on things on my phone though, obviously those razor quick terrier eyes pick up all movement.

  5. I love the photo of the dogs watching television. Even from behind their posture shows how intent they are.

    1. They sat there for over half the talk and then re-located to the bed and resumed watching. Ginger obviously couldn't give a fig about UPFs. :-)

    1. Sorry to hear that your brother isn't well. Tesco sells lovely flowers, and treats if he can manage them. So you could make it two visits. xx

  8. Awww, that photo of the tribe in front of the telly is adorable. I bet Ginger is like William and prefers a good crime drama! xxx
