Christmas Books - December 2023

As the long dark nights built up to this the shortest day of the year, and with the dark mornings being banished each day by the fairy lights twinkling on the tree, and the ones strung along the bookshelves highlighting my favourite books early each morning, and with my Christmas book reading pile calling to me, I thought what better day to launch a new blog all about eating and reading, reading and eating.

I do both so well at this magical time of year .

A close up of the books for all the fellow book lovers out there.

If you've followed the trail of crumbs that I have left leading to this blog, welcome.  You are very welcome.  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

I will be back on 1st January to see in the New Year with this my new blog, in the meantime I am hunkering down with my Christmas books ... and maybe a film or three.  💖

  1. You cannot imagine how happy seeing your new blog has made me feel Sue! Myself, I've run out of blogging steam, what with worries about family illnesses, finances and my own health. Today I felt totally down and bleurgh but you have definitely cheered me up with your happy post :) Thank you!
I'm looking forward to your future posts immensely. Your Christmassy photo is so relaxing and, of course, you can't go wrong with a photo of books!
Wishing a wonderful Christmas to you and your family.

    1. What a wonderful comment Angie, thank you for being the first person to find me on this new blog. For various reasons this is being launched low key and without fanfare and will be mainly about food and books ... but I'm sure you figured that one out already. :-)

I hope you, your husband and family have a lovely Christmas, doing exactly what you want to do to make it right for you.

      Much love Sue xx

  2. How exciting you are doing another blog. I love books and food so right up my ally. I just finished 'The Invisible Hour' by Alice Hoffman. Quite excellent. I've made up the cheese manicottis for christmas dinner and done all the shopping(what little there was to do):)

    1. I have never heard of Alice Hoffman before, so I just had to go and read about her and The Invisible Hour. It sounds like the sort of book you can really lose yourself in, following Mia's journey through ages and reading.

And cheese manicottis ... something else I had to Google. They look and sound wonderful and could so easily be made dairy-free so that I could eat them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manicotti

Thank you for your commenting, wishing you and all your family a very Happy Christmas. xx

  8. So lovely to see you back, Sue. Hope all is well.
I have never commented before, but kept meaning to tell you about reading the Radio Times for free - and then it was too late. If your local library uses the Libby app, you can get each issue including the Christmas & New Year one.
All the best for 2024. x

    1. All is very well thank you.

Yes, I know that you can read the Radio Times for free if you are a library member. I'm currently not, maybe one day if I run out of my own material to read I will join. I had a missing copy of the Radio Times just before Christmas and they sent me a link to be able to read that weeks issue on my phone, it was good for a quick check to set up my recordings but that's all I used it for. It did highlight to me that I wouldn't want to read it that way every week.

    1. Hello Cilla!!

Tentatively starting again, so I'll see how it goes. It won't be much about home life well apart from the bookshelves and the kitchen, it's a trial. xx

    1. Nice to hear from you Mary. How sad and rude of Google not to like you ... bad, bad Google. It does the same to lots of lovely folk so you are not alone. I don't mind Anonymous comments as long as the writers do as you have done and leave a first name, it does make things friendlier doesn't it. :-)

  16. I’d not long found your old blog when you announced you were stopping so I’m very pleased to find you ‘back’. I’ve blogged since 2006 and have had moments when I’ve let it slide but always come back to it. I like reading back over the years as reminds me what I’ve been through and done etc so that’s what keeps me going lol as I like the recording of my days. It must never feel like an obligation though or the fun goes out of it. Books and food well I think that’s a marvellous bedrock for some wonderful posts. Kind regards Danette

    1. Yes, I've blogged on and off ... mostly on ... since 2008, so it felt really strange to stop. But I have had to find a way that I can continue but showing a lot less of our personal lives. I hope this can work out better, whilst I am still working. Oh it's never, ever been an obligation, more like a way of keeping in touch with friends on a day to day basis whilst documenting changes in our lives. This is just a temporary 'change' until I can retire from the day job.
