Over the weekend, just a couple of days after the Christmas Tree Festival we headed up the hill above Scorton to the Wyresdale Artisan Christmas Market.
Due to the really bad stormy weather of the past few days it was a much smaller event than usual. Most of the stalls that had braved the windy weather were tucked into the little courtyard for protection. It was bitterly cold but everyone was nice and cheerful and looking forward to a days trading.
We got there nice and early so we could enjoy breakfast in the Applestore Café, which is a lovely location to eat at, but somehow something goes wrong with our order every single time we eat there. This time they gave me meat sausages instead of vegan ones on my breakfast roll and I had to wait while some more were cooked ... thank goodness I checked!
Mind you Mavis always gets star treatment there and had two sausages of her own to eat ... definitely meat for her and not vegan!!
Once all three of us had full tummies and had warmed up by the heat of the log burner, we got back into our hats and scarves and ventured outside. My first two purchases were from this stall.
A handmade Sycamore wooden spoon for me, and a Christmas decoration with a Robin on it for Mum. This has been a yearly tradition since my Dad died, and somehow I have managed to find something very appropriate each year.
Then we had a little stroll around the outbuildings to let Mavis let off some steam. The old pig sty's are used as the elves workshops and Santa's Grotto each year, so I got a photo just before Santa arrived and the children all came to meet him.
My next purchase was a little ornament for my Christmas tree, I try and buy myself one each year if it is something special and this one is. My eye was drawn to it straight away ... a Pug wishing me a Merry Woofmas, and while there were many other breeds of dogs available this was the only Pug one on the whole display.
It was meant to be.
My final purchase was going to be a wreath for my front door, but then Alan paid for it for me, so it is in fact a gift for me and the front door. 💝
I love the simplicity of it, nothing garish or bright, just lovely natural and with a faded green coloured velvet ribbon and a rusty bell, just perfect for me.
It was a lovely couple of hours out on a chilly, blustery Sunday morning, and now a little memory of Suky hangs on the Christmas tree, as she will every year from now on.
I don't know if this little film will work for you, but this was Suky's first Christmas on the farm. 💖

What a lovely little market, and what a cute little video!
ReplyDeleteIt was much smaller this year, but also felt very festive, so it didn't seem to matter too much. I forget sometimes how little and mischievous Suky was when I first got her.
DeleteWhat nice things you found. I'm sorry dear Suki is gone. I read your former blogs but just found this one recently. Wishing you a beautiful and happy Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI miss her dreadfully, it's been a tough year with one thing and another. Thank you, a very Happy Christmas to you too. xx
DeleteWhat lovely purchases, especially the pug decoration. Mx
ReplyDeleteIt felt like it was meant to be. xx
DeleteSuky was so cute. I love the wreath, it looks very good on your door. We have yet to put up any decorations or lights, will do that this weekend. Late to the party but I don't like them up too soon. Glad you got your sausages sorted out. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteShe was, in every stage of her life I loved her, she was magnificent. xx
DeleteYour purchases are all gorgeous, I do so love handmade stuff. What a lovely video of Suky! She was so very pretty wasn't she and will always have a place on your tree at Christmas.
ReplyDeleteBlimey to the meat sausages :/ How can they get it wrong every time!

The couple I bought the wooden spoon and robin decoration have a permanent little workshop in the grounds there, I must stay away ... they have so many beautiful things to tempt me with. She really was very pretty, all through her life.
DeleteI love the pug decoration and the video of Suky is adorable.
ReplyDeleteShe was a little sweetie pie when she was tiny. xx
DeleteThat wreath is perfect!
ReplyDeleteIt's my sort of simple, I love it. I'm hoping it will dry out nicely and I can save it for next year.
DeleteYou found perfect things to buy - the wreath is lovely
ReplyDeleteI love my purchases they are, as you say, just perfect. xx
DeleteLovey to see the little memory of Suky as a pup. Heather
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to watch the animals when they were younger and so full of life once they are gone. But the memories are very special. xx
DeleteAww, Suky was so cute. The pug tree dec was just made for you, wasn't it? That cafe looks nice, what a pity they can't get the orders right. I love the rusty metal hare sculpture.
ReplyDeleteWe've been three times and every time something has been wrong with the order, this time I couldn't turn a blind eye to it though, or else I would have gone hungry!! They have lots of those sculptures permanently dotted around the place, they are very eye-catching.
DeleteI couldn't help but shed a tear when I watched the little video of Suky, she was so precious and such a darling❤️ I love all the items you bought, especially the Robin and Pug ornament. I have Robin's dotted around our home "Robins appear when loved ones are near" It's this time of the year when I so miss home, it was 39.9 degrees here on the weekend🥵 I have 2 packets of fake snow I bought years ago but I'm not sure if it will make sure a mess😱
ReplyDeleteRobins are such special little birds aren't they. One has always popped up when me or Mum have needed support. ❤️ I think you should use your fake snow in a confined and lined place. 😄
DeleteAhh poor Suky. I remember when we adopted suzie as she had an awful life dumped time after time. Nobody wanted her. In Japan they want breeds and she wasn’t she was a mongrel like milo is now. She was old and had a heart murmur when we got her . She peed everywhere. But we didn’t care. We gave her the best 2.5 years she had ever had. I remember taking her to the vets and her back legs gave out I had to carry her. I was crying I knew she was dying. Paul was working. So I called him and told she had been put to sleep. I couldn’t tell the kids for hours they were devastated.
ReplyDeleteMilo is now 7 . But we still think of her. I love a good artisan market beats mass produced crap any day!
Suky died after a lovely day out with us, she simply collapsed on her evening walk and died an hour later, in her own time at the vets. 🌹
DeleteDear Suki! Thank goodness you checked before eating that sandwich! The wooden spoon is lovely but its those industrial lights in the cafe that really take my eye. x
ReplyDeleteYes, I admired the lights. They are the blue version of the ones we had in Wales. 💙
