It was a good weekend.
Ginger and Mavis learned how to assemble a shelf unit thanks to Midwest Magic Cleaning's YouTube channel, while I had a shower first thing on Saturday morning, they were absolutely fascinated so I left them to it. I hope they don't put their new skills into practice when I'm out and about. 😁
We took Mavis for a walk along the promenade in Morecambe on Sunday morning, gosh it was cold but we did just about miss the rain. Obviously as the dark clouds rolled in we retreated to our favourite café there for a coffee each and a bacon bun shared between Alan and Mavis.
Rather than walk any further along the prom, after our drinks we called into the charity shop. I turned round from browsing the books to see Alan grinning at me ... he's a plonker!!
No he didn't buy the hat, thank goodness. 😄
But I did buy a book. 💖
I couldn't resist, it's been added to my little pile of books to try and read in December.
When I got home I realised that the illustrations have been done by Shirley Hughes, what a coincidence!! I only mentioned Shirley Hughes books the other day when Angela over on Tracing Rainbows was writing about children's authors and about the books our children read as youngsters.
It should be a nice little read for December.
On our way home we stopped at Morrisons as Alan wanted some of their 'pick and mix' fresh salad for his lunch, he asked me if there was anything I fancied and this Tiger Bloomer caught my eye. That's what happens when I only have a coffee in the café and sit and watch Alan chomping away, the old tummy starts to rumble. It was very nice to have a couple of slices with butter and cheese when I got home.
But ...
I looked at the label this morning while two more slices were toasting.
I'm not impressed, when will I remember this long list of ingredients that supermarket bread has? For all it's long list of ingredients it was still stale this morning, so I have been busy toasting and re-toasting it and will put out a little bit each day finely crumbed up for the visiting pigeons.
Finally, thank you so much to all of you who left comments yesterday.
It was a really worthwhile blog post, and I think most of us learnt something from it. I have decided that my blog will remain with exactly the same access format as now for the foreseeable future, especially as the Follower numbers has now risen above a hundred and this would make it more complicated to change to being a private blog ... as far as I understand it.
Again ... thank you.

I always enjoyed Shirley Hughes books and illustrations. I miss reading children’s books now that my grand children are older. My parents were never very well off, but there were always books for me to read. You have some great book finds at charity shops. We have quite a few free little library boxes in peoples front gardens (choose one, leave one) any I am also fortunate to have a good library not far away. This summer the library ran a walk and talk book group. We picked a book from a different genre each week and walked and chatted about the book we had chosen, we rotated partners. A nice event. Love your blog. Jean in Winnipeg.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a really good idea for a 'book club'. I find myself wanting to reread the books that I used to read to the boys when they were small. Maybe if I see any of them in a charity shop I will buy some ... although not Thomas the Tank Engine, I used to almost know those off my heart I read them that often.
DeleteWow, your follower numbers shot up, it's lovely to see the numbers going up even though I always say it doesn't really matter but it does feel good to know people are reading.
ReplyDeleteThat hat!
What a lot of ingredients for a loaf of bread - I've got a 50/50 wholemeal/white in the bread maker this morning, makes yummy toast to go with proper marmalade given to me by friends.
It is nice when people click the little Follow button isn't it. Imagine if I'd kept the same blog address that I used for Our New Life in the Country. Even with some people dropping off now that it's no longer updated, the Follower numbers are still in the 900's.
DeleteI know ... what is he like, I had to get a photo of him when he was stood there posing.
It's a ridiculous amount of ingredients isn't it, I could maybe understand it if the bread was still super fresh this morning, but it's a stale as can be. So it makes me wonder what all those additives are actually doing!!
I love that photo of Ginger and Mavis watching the TV so avidly. Does the presenter have a mesmerising voice, to keep them so interested? Or are they just so pleased to have the attention all to themselves. Brilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteIn my spare bedroom, I still have the books I would read to my grandchildren when they came to spend a weekend with me (and my dog, Benji). When the youngest child, Eleanor, went to bed, she would be bathed and pyjama'd in her bed; her brother Leo would sit on one side of her, myself on the other side, holding the book so that we could all see it and Benji would lie alongside Eleanor, but on top of the duvet, for all the world reading the book as well. I miss those times so much.
None of our pets have ever been interested in the tv. I love that picture, Ginger looks utterly engrossed. The list of ingredients in the bread look overwhelming! Regards Sue H
