The First Shopping of November

Shopping - Sainsbury's £16.49

I didn't really need much shopping this week, but I did fancy some cucumber and Alan needed me to pick up a few things for him while he was away for work.  So a trip to Sainsbury's it was.

As you can see I got tempted by far more than the cucumbers!!  The coffee was on a reasonable offer, but nowhere near as good as it used to be.  The offer used to always be from £7.50 down to £4 at least three times a year.  This time it was £7.75 down to £6, so the offer was half as good as it used to be.  Luckily I already have (I think) two jars still in the cupboard so I just bought one extra while this offer was on.

It's the time of year when my lips really suffer and I needed to stock up on some moisturiser for them.  I have an awful habit of picking at my lips if they get too flaky and then I get into a cycle of dry flaky lips that goes on and on.  I need to try and nip this in the bud. πŸ‘„

The haddock fillets and the Cornetto were just a complete splurge, I fancied some fish and I haven't had a dessert after a meal for quite a while, and sometimes a Cornetto just really hits the spot.  Of course fruit and yogurt would possibly have been a much less processed option, but hey I'm no angel. πŸ˜„

My receipt, the crossed out things were the bits I got for Alan, chocolate cream Γ©clair cakes, a large bottle of milk and a pack of cooked chicken pieces.

The cash machine wasn't working on my into the store so I had to pay for my shopping by card, but as if by magic it was working on my way out, so I got this month's £100 while I was there.

I do love shopping with real money these days.

Added:  This was actually the second shopping trip of November, the first being The £2 Challenge That Never WasTotal spend £13.94

  2. I did a top up shop of fruit, veg and salad in M and S as I had £21 in vouchers. Spent a bit more than that but got some things which are now in the freezer out of temptation’s way! Catriona

    1. I have a paltry £4 worth of vouchers this time, one of the downsides of shopping with cash more. ☹️

  3. I like to buy with cash when possible but it doesn't seem to go as far as I anticipate πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€

    1. Gosh no it runs out quickly doesn't it. But then I find with cash I notice that more and reign it in. With cards it's dangerous invisible money, especially at this time of year.

  4. It seems almost nostalgic to pay with cash. I remember when some places didn't accept cards, cash only and sometimes checks. There is an ice cream place near here that is cash only. Very unusual for the times!

    1. I like shopping with cash our High Street as I know that the small shops are getting the full benefit of my money and not the banks.

  5. I usually use a card just for the cash back factor, saving a bit of money where I can. I do admire those that can manage to shop with cash.

    God bless.

    1. It's important to keep cash going, a couple of times recently our shops have been unable to accept cards due to banking problems. In a small town like ours the cashpoint machines soon ran out of money.

  6. When you are shopping with cash, have you found some checkout staff have difficulty with making change, even though the till will have told them how much to give you πŸ€ͺ ?

    1. I once made a small purchase with a $20. The young man couldn’t figure out how to give me my $17.xx in change because his till was out of 10 dollar bills. He struggled for some time before his manager came over and helped him. SMH. 🀦‍♀️. ~ Carol

    2. BEG: No, but I only offer an odd 5p or whatever to make change giving easier if it's an older cashier. The youngster don't get it. 🫀 Also I use the self serve tills a lot so that I can use up change and beat the queues.

    3. Carol: It’s almost painful watching them NOT understand isn't it. Even worse if you try and advise them they look at us as though WE are crazy. πŸ˜„

  7. Coffee seems to be much more expensive than to used to be. I've cut back, as a result. Xx

    1. As I only drink instant coffee at home and a jar last me for months, I doubt that I will ever cut back. πŸ˜„

  8. I much prefer shopping with real money too, Sue, but as we have home deliveries now it's not possible. I have to write it down each week to stay within budget!
