I think I need a bit of a shopping catch up so that I have my records straight on here, so here we go. 😀
At the start of the first week of November I did the shopping for the Challenge that didn't actually happen spending £13.94. Then at the start of the following week I spent the £16.49 that I posted about HERE. I called that post The First Shopping of November ... confused? Join the club. 😄
At the end of that same week we went to Booths for a coffee and did some more shopping, I spent £10.65 at Booths, then £1 for the book on the charity table in there, and then I spent a further £3.16 in Aldi. A total of £14.81.
Tuesday of this week I called to Sainsbury's for a few fresh things. I did the worst thing possible and went out hungry, hence the 'Giraffe Baton' purchase, which was very tasty actually.
I spent £10.45 on food.
And then just before I left I spotted this, another £3.95 spent. So a grand total of £14.40 for this week.
A total spend up to now for this month of £ 59.64.
I fancied the magazine partly because I don't buy many Christmas magazines these days and partly for the calendar. Gosh I used to buy a real stack of them many moons ago, now it's just something like this with a free calendar, and then happily this year I still have a couple of issues left of my gift Country Living subscription.
Then by a weird twist of coincidence while I was looking at and deleting old photos from the computer I came across this from November 2013. The same magazine, the same free calendar (well the 2013 version of it), and a couple of other freebies. Just look at the price difference in the last eleven years, which is only to be expected I suppose.
There we are, all caught up ... and only slightly confused. 😄

A little indulgence is good for you. I like the look of those Christmas tree biscuits with the glace window. I made something like that when the kids were all still at home. Recipe from a library book. Fiddly but nice. I have to say, frugal or otherwise, I could never buy just one onion!! I buy the bags of Aldi wonky ones which tend to be smaller and just right for a meal for one.
ReplyDeleteI already have white onions left over from my Challenge shopping, so I didn't really need to buy any onions, but on my Nectar app it meant I got 30 points by buying it. And a red onion is nice to add into Med veggies or a toasties. 😀
DeleteI like seeing what you buy and it looks as if you'll still come under budget for this month. We are preparing for Thanksgiving and I have invited my late friend's husband and daughters to share Thanksgiving dinner with us, so, I might not quite keep to my budget for this month. But it'll all work out fine in the end.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's nice to 'push the boat out' and enjoy a good time with friends and family. After all it's budgeting for most of the year that means we can have guilt-free splurges when we want to. ❤️
DeleteI used to love the Sainsbury's magazine but we don't live near a Sainsbury's now so I have to content myself with the occasional Tesco freebie magazine which isn't a great substitute 😁
ReplyDeleteThat bread does look tempting, it always amuses me when you see toddlers in supermarket trolleys munching away on a French Stick loaf!
Alison in Wales x
Haha ... we don't live near a Tesco, so I miss out on that one now. It's not as good as the Sainsbury's one (well apart from being totally free) but there did used to be some good coupons in there. I used to love the Waitrose magazine and newspaper style weekly one when we lived down south too.
DeleteAt least if they're munching away on a French stick they are not asking for things. ;-)
That mag looks fabulous. I see what you mean about the price difference over the years but I need a calendar and the cheapest I can find locally is £4.95. I might need to splash out on a mag this month!
ReplyDeleteYour food looks so fresh and lovely that I'm craving salad despite it being really cold today ;)
The calendar that Alan has bought for my Christmas present was just under £20, luckily there are lots of potential pictures for framing in it. So yes, a free calendar especially one that is laid out and suitable as a menu planner is a great excuse for buying the magazine.
DeleteExcept for the cucumber all the veggies will be served hot, it's gone a bit damp and chilly now hasn't it, and I'm definitely not in the mood for salads.
Is that we have a Readly subscription I don’t buy any magazines s I used to buy 4/5 monthly ones! Enjoy your magazine and all the fresh looking food! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI just don't get on with reading online, so it will always be actual magazines or books for me, although the Readily subscription is a real money saver for anyone that loves magazines isn't it.
DeleteThat is a big difference price, but as you say it is 11 years in the making.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Yep, after eleven years you would expect a rise in the price wouldn't you. So I'm not complaining. :-)
