So What's Next?

I finished Laura Ingalls Wilder's 'The Long Winter' the other day and I have yet to start another book.

Sometimes when you finish one book it can take a while to get into another one, and I usually like to really vary what I am reading, so it won't be another in the series even though I do own them all now.

I stood in front of my tall bookcase and didn't see anything that inspired me, so I stood in front of this one, well I stood back in the bathroom which is where I had to crouch down to take this photo.  My little hallway is only narrow, perhaps two foot of passing space between the wall and this glazed bookcase when it's doors are closed.  I do like living small, but it occasionally has it's disadvantages.  😄

Still nothing jumped out at me, I'm obviously lacking inspiration ... maybe it's something to do with yesterdays blog post.

I gave up, but later I needed my hummus recipe so I lifted down this book which it's in.  Why I can't get this recipe fixed in my head after making it since 2015 when this book came out I have no idea. 😕

I found it, and made it.

Then I thought perhaps that's what I need ... to read a couple of recipe books and re-invigorate my cooking mojo.  So that is my next book of choice.  I might as well read through it all and make a list of things to make.

It could end up being invigorating and tasty.

  1. I know exactly what you mean. I'm between books at the moment and can't get into anything I pick up.

    1. It's terrible isn't it, you want to read, in fact sometimes you need to have something to read, but it feels as though you are in a booky 'no man's land'.

  2. I was saying the same thing yesterday on Ang’s blog-my reading is just not inspiring me at the moment. My new crossword book is keeping me busy and I’m learning lots of new words.. The theme is Kew Gardens and I have learned about lots of plants I had never heard of before. Catriona

    1. Oh gosh I would be terrible at that crossword book, although I have been growing for years plant names are one of my word blindnesses. Although I would love to go to Kew Gardens. :-)

  3. I was thinking about hummus yesterday...and now I have just looked up Ella's recipe [it's online here https://www.deliciouslyella.com/recipes/classic-hummus/] I might do that later.

    1. Yes, that's the same recipe, only a half sized portion. I do like the idea that the updated version has roasted garlic and a little less oil. Making it with some of the aquafaba from the tinned chickpeas instead of all the water is a good idea too, it makes it much creamier tasting. Oh, and the beetroot version is delicious, to this recipe I would just drop in a single pre-cooked beetroot.

  4. Cookbooks make fun reading and, sometimes, we end up making something tasty to eat as a result. :)

  5. Funnily enough I’ve just started long winter but also spent yesterday evening browsing healthy vegetarian meals online - we’ve got a guest soon who is veggie and I’m going to use that to kick start some healthier eating.

    1. It can be a really good thing to start eating a lot more veggies, something I am making more of an effort to do at the moment. Gosh I am even trying to eat a bit more fruit this past couple of days. Some what I thought were dried out Satsumas left over from Christmas, but actually they were lovely and juicy inside and this morning I even added an apple to my porridge ... alongside the peanut butter of course. :-)

  6. I read a lot and sometimes I also struggle to get into a new book if I’ve really enjoyed the one I’ve just finished . I miss the characters!

    1. That's so very true, we can get really invested in a book and miss it when it ends can't we. :-(

  7. I can't say I've ever read a cookery book for pleasure but can see the appeal with a prettily presented one like that.
I'm reading a crazy book at the moment, its making me laugh so much I have to keep putting it down! xxx

    1. They are much easier to read through if there are some lovely pictures, photos or even just well done sketches to break up the monotony of recipes. And of course so many books these days come with a chapter on the author and their history, especially Ella's books.

  8. Once I finish this book I am reading, there are a couple of cookbooks I need to go through.

    God bless.

    1. It is making a nice break from having to immerse myself into a story, perhaps just what I needed. Enjoy your cookbook reading. xx
