Taking Life Slowly, One Day at a Time

We nipped to Morecambe for a chilly walk on the beach the other day, Thursday I think it was ... the days are all blurring into a mish mash of sorting, clearing and jettisoning at the moment.

We really needed the walk.

The sound of the waves gently lapping the shore was calming, as you can hear in this short video.  We stayed on the beach for ten minutes and then had to admit defeat and head to the coffee shop for some hot coffee, a much needed breakfast for Alan and a toasted teacake for me.

Mavis' walks suit me just fine now that she has slowed down, she now only needs a short walk and even then has to stop to get her breath back a couple of times.  She really enjoyed herself, and also enjoyed the slice of bacon she shared with her Dad.

    1. Morecambe is starting to slowly come back to life after being a bit neglected for years. But anywhere where there is sea and sand is good in my book.

  2. And no one else there - how wonderfully peaceful

    1. There were a few fellow dog walkers, but it was very early in the morning. The cars were streaming in as we left Morecambe. πŸ™‚

  3. What a lovely blue sky and sea - ours is grey! Well, it is today! And slow is good.....you notice much more when you're not racing around.

    1. It was like a brief bit of blue sky and clarity after so many days of heavy cloud and rain. We were very lucky to be able to make the most of it as the clouds rolled back in as we drove home.

  4. We had those beautiful blue skies yesterday - and the same Baltic temperatures, too! Loved the video! xxx

    1. I would rather it was bitterly cold and clear than cloudy, rainy and windy. It's good when you can make the most of brief spells of decent weather isn't it.

  5. Such a peaceful video - the sound of the waves hitting the shore. A beautiful winter day. Happy New Year!

    1. We mostly just stood letting the sound wash over us while Mavis had a good sniff around, as walks go we didn't actually cover that much distance. :-)

Happy New Year to you too. xx

  6. I am longing to go to the sea but too frosty here to take out the van. Catriona

  7. I am having a slowdown weekend as I ease into this new year. Had to go into the office for both mornings Thursday and Friday but it was good to get out and to chat with people - also got a lot accomplished with not many around to interrupt.
Today I have made a quiche, will make some soup later and otherwise I am enjoying some classical music on the radio and getting stuck into a new library book.
Sunday I will go to church - meet a couple of friends for coffee and try to get in a bit of a walk down by the lake. It is currently -4C and will be much the same tomorrow - but so far no snow - so I will wear my parka and enjoy the fresh air!

    1. That all sounds just perfect.

Alan spent the whole day in the office doing our monthly and quarterly accounts yesterday, with no phone calls to deal with he had them done in half the time it usually takes. I did my bit and simply stayed out of his way. :-)

I hope you are able to go for that walk today. xx

    1. It's her little Christmas jumper, she's loving wearing it this year, she obviously feels the cold a lot more than she used to. Happily she has a blue non-Christmas one that she can start to wear now, although I will miss seeing her little Rudolf red-nose bobble on her back. :-)

  9. Staying close to home these past few days as it has been in the -40C the past few mornings. The wind has made it feel even colder. So I have been putting Christmas away, tidying a few rooms, and working on various projects. Just a slow week around here which will continue for a day or two longer.

    God bless.

  10. Aw, doesn't Mavis look gorgeous in her red coat 😍 The beaches here are beautiful, however I so miss the seaside towns in the UK. We are about 20 mins from the beach but it's been about 2 or 3 years since we wentπŸ™€ I was only saying to DH we should go early one morning, have a walk then brekky overlooking the Ocean πŸ‘

    1. She's enjoyed having her Christmas jumper this year, we'll switch over to her blue one now that the festivities are over. It takes us about 25-30 minutes to get there but it's an easy drive, just one junction on the motorway and then 15 minutes heading into Morecambe. You really should do as you say and treat yourselves to a walk followed by breakfast. It blows the cobwebs away at this time of year. xx

  11. Oh, that blue sky - such a joy.

Hope you are not too snowed in. We have had about 2mm of the white stuff which has already melted from the road & drive and left it nice and wet. That will be lovely when it turns to black ice later ❄️πŸ₯Ά

    1. It was wonderful, you just have to get out and enjoy that sort of weather when it happens don't you. Now we are back to yucky weather. There was lots of snow first thing today, but it's already turning into sludge. I have my fingers crossed that it's better tomorrow when we are clearing Mum's bungalow, with my grandson taking everything away, we don't want any accidents while we're loading the van.

  12. I spotted your video on U Tube (was it yesterday???) anyway....I love it. The sea sounds so soothing with those gentle waves lapping the shore.. I do miss the smell of the sea. We haven't been to the coast for more than 5 years and I miss it so much. Even when it's bitterly cold you can wrap up for a good walk can't you. Mavis looks so cute!

    1. It was on Facebook, but yes to be able to share it I first added it to my YouTube channel, it's an easier way to do it. Sadly I can no longer smell the sea but I still feel the fresh effect of it on my sinuses. Everyone loves her in her little Christmas jumper, the residents and staff at Mum's care home love her turning up in it. She visits Mum every time we do. :-)

    1. I should have filmed it for longer, it's such a calming sound isn't it. It looked beautiful with those gentle waves too, it's a long time since it's been that peaceful there, there are usually much bigger waves. She loves the sand, but never ventures into the water.

    1. My pleasure. It was lovely standing there letting the sound but not the water, wash over us.

  15. Loved hearing the waves. Clever of Alan to move aside so that his shadow didn't hide Mavis in her festive coat.
