A Cosy, Booky, Tasty New Year

Art:  Sunday Evening by Lucy Almey-Bird

Cosy days and cosy nights, good books and a Sunday style tea on a Wednesday to see in the New Year ... and confuse us even more.  After the hustle and bustle of Christmas it's so good to see in this fresh New Year calmly and cosily.

I'm almost glad of the horrible weather outside of the lodge if it means that I can curl up with my book and enjoy some good tasty little nibbles.

Coffee, good food and books, they make the world go round and here's to another year of lots more of all three.

  1. Happy New Year to you all. Hope the coming months bring you health, happiness, friends and a few laughs.

Cannot get my head around the fact that we have just concluded the first quarter of the 21st Century.
It seems only moments ago that Ollie and I spent the day in my sewing room on NYE 1999 . . .

  3. I so want to be in that lovely warm sitting room! That's definitely the way to see out the old year and welcome the new year. Blowing a gale outside this morning. Breakfast, book and coffee for me!

  4. Glorious picture. I love the green jumper (I've got the rocking chair,, the willow patter plate, and a vintage brown woollen blanket) I remember toasting crumpets in front of an open fire on Sunday afternoons... But that was 60 years ago

    1. There are so many things in her artwork that I either have or used to have, I think that's why I love the pictures so much.

  5. What a lovely picture - not come across her work before. I can remember winter days huddled round the cold fire, with a wicked draught at the backs of the legs, toasting fork in hand. No open fire here (no fireplace with anything behind it in fact as our living room used to be the carriage house) and I miss our wood burner.

I have a stack of good books to read though, and a supply of tea and cake (you can have my share of any coffee going!). All the best for 2025.

    1. I've shared her work a few times now, Alan got three of her prints framed for me for my birthday last year. I really miss our log burner too, especially when we have power cuts.

  7. Best wishes for the New Year. A lovely picture, full of memories, DD loved having her long hair brushed. I sent her the card of this for her birthday. The number 2025 has a square root, the only year with one this century.

    1. I hated anyone brushing my hair when it was long. Her pictures do evoke lots of memories don't they.

  11. Happy New Year to you and yours. I took a deep breath when I read Bag End’s comment. It was a bit of a shock to realise a quarter of the century had passed.
