We called to our local garden centre on Saturday to return something, so we decided to get some breakfast and a coffee while we were there. We were very well entertained at our riverside window table by a pair of robins, a pair of some kind of tit and a couple of little black and white birds dashing here there and everywhere.
Have I ever mentioned my complete lack of knowledge of flora and fauna, my head is just too full of other things for any of this to stick ... the robins are lucky that they mean so much to me.
The river was hurtling past, right at the very top of the bank, fascinating and very hypnotising to watch while sipping my coffee.
We didn't go for a full Riverford box last week, instead we got a salad bag each and some additional blueberries and another pack of hot cross buns. But ... I've had enough of the hot cross buns now, seasonal eating is good but you can gorge too much on something when it suddenly appears on your radar.
I loved this week's newsletter.
On our way back from the garden centre we called to the bungalow, it had been a few days since I had last seen it and Alan and the builders had been working hard all week.
This is the view from the front door.
This is the old kitchen, who needs windows with glass in them when you can have a wooden board that the wind relocates. 😄
The old living room.
As I said who needs windows, or in this case part of the front wall too. We do seem to have gained a coat hook though. Proper posh!! 😁
The biggest gain of the week is an actual concrete floor in the living/dining/kitchen room.
An actual surface to walk on!!
Just four more layers on top of this and the floor will be done, ah well it's all progress.
Alan and the builders will hopefully have all the floors to this stage by Thursday night, when the builders all down tools and head off to Spain for the Easter weekend. We are obviously paying them far too much. 😄

A lot of hard work. It is looking very promising.
ReplyDeleteIt really is, but it's nice to have some floors at last. :-)
DeleteIt must be exciting visiting the bungalow when so much is happening behind the scenes. A surprise at every visit!
ReplyDeleteThe river at the garden centre looks very full and close to the top of the bank :o/
This time I am getting to experience the renovations the way Alan did when we were in Wales. Just popping up once or twice a week to see what's happened. :-)
DeleteReal progress - very pleasing.
ReplyDeleteThe river rushing past where you had your coffee looks quite alarming!
It was right at the top of it's banks, as it is all along it's length in our area. The rugby pitch is currently still under water.
DeleteProgress is wonderful. The river looks as if it could overflow at any minute.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's overflowed in many places along it's length, but happily the garden centre is a bit higher than the river.
DeleteThat's a very full river! How wonderful to see the progress as your new home!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see it all coming together at last isn't it. :-)
DeleteHopefully the builders will return full of energy after their time in the sun! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI hope so, but we will keep cracking the whip until they leave the job on Thursday afternoon. :-)
DeleteWe had our first visit to our local garden centre this weekend. We don't often go but they have some special offers on for a few things we have ear marked for this season. Alan and his team are doing a stirling job, lots of work but all worth it in the end.
ReplyDeleteIt makes you feel like planting season is here when you visit the garden centre at this time of year doesn't it.
DeleteThe team are working really well, they have to really when the man paying them is working alongside them every day. ;-)
I know what you mean about over doing seasonal treats, although I haven’t yet grown bored of chocolate - mores the pity 🤭😂
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Funnily enough I have really cut down my chocolate consumption recently, I have not been drooling over Easter eggs the way I usually do. :-)
DeleteThe "under construction" part aways sucks, but the "finally finished" part is always cool.
ReplyDelete'Finally finished' will be amazing, especially if we can squeeze it into this year. :-)
DeleteIt's taking shape, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends commented on facebook that he and his partner's idea of fun used to be an all-nighter in Brum and now they're drinking tea in a garden centre. Jon & I have yet to do that but hey, we are hurtling towards 60! xxx
Well we've crossed the line so we can sup coffee in garden centre's to our hearts content. ;-)
DeleteDefinitely progress on your new home, which Alan will be enjoying, and seeing in more detail than you perhaps.? I read yesterday that students had got flights from Edinburgh to Paris for $40 RETURN!! For goodness sake, that’s less that petrol to London and back, isn’t it? We’re about to have our quietest Easter ever … we hope … the family is going away but leaving us with the puppy .. a gorgeous, naughty, chewing machine of an eight month old Labradoodle! We’ll be in damage control I fear. Happy Easter to you two. I hoe it’s an Easter holiday for Alan while the workmen are away.
ReplyDeleteAlan takes photos every day that I am uploading to our 'renovation file', so I do get to see the layers of progress. It does feel good to be a step away from this renovation, I had to supervise our last one singlehandedly during the week as Alan worked away and was only home at weekends. I think this is why he's enjoying this one so much more.
DeleteGood luck with your Easter guest, you are going to have your hands full ... but it should be fun.
