A Shopping Catch Up - Sorry Sue!!

I have fallen so far behind with my shopping posts, that this one is a quick round up of everything that has come into the house since the last one.

Last weeks Riverford box was a medium box for 2-3 people, and we also choose a couple of extras.

Choosing those extras was dangerous ... those Chocolate Chip and Orange Hot Cross buns were delicious, and lasted barely two days.  We both loved them, I might have added them to next weeks order too!  😁

14th Aldi - total of £34.90

Normal shopping in the order it was done and with prices.

This shop was in two parts.

The items above were my normal weeks shopping at £13.15.

These items were a stock up at £21.75.  Although when I got home I realised that the Weetabix tin was just about empty, so these will have to be dipped into quite soon.

I went wild in the aisles at Booths on the 18th, spending a total of £54.40.  It included treats for each of us and some store cupboard items to stock up.  The sun was out, the store was lovely and quiet and I had earned myself some extra cash.

Definitely for the store cupboard were the tins of beans on offer at £7 for 8 cans.  A lot more expensive than my usual Aldi's own, but I do like Heinz when they're not £2 a can!!

The Booths receipt.

The finally, and to bring you bang up to date I went to Aldi yesterday morning.  I spent £19.68 on a mixture of store cupboard items and a couple of things that I actually needed

The things for the store cupboard were dated and stashed away, although I will have to dip into one of the peanut butters next month as my current jar is almost empty.

So, that's us all up to date.

The reason for the extra available cash this month has been some really good Facebook Marketplace sales, which me and Alan both agreed would be good to use for stocking up before any coming price rises.  Seemingly the things that are pretty much guaranteed to rise in price first are cooking oils, chocolate and coffee, but I get my coffee from Sainsbury's were I can usually get the best price, so that's possibly something for next week.

So with apologies to Sue in Suffolk who in this posts comments let slip that she finds shopping photos boring ... hey Sue at least I didn't video it all and talk you through it.  😉

Sue xx

  1. It's only my shopping photos that are boring because I can't think of anything else to blog about!

    1. I'm sure you can, you been managing to come up with good blog posts for quite a few years now. 😀 We are with blogging old-timers. Long may it continue. 😀

  2. I don't mention my shopping because I'm not a 'frugal shopper'. I spend a good deal more than you! My shopping includes Greek yoghurt (gut health), tins of mixed beans, frozen veg including stir fry mix and spinach, mixed peppers, and of course, our chocolate ration!

    1. It would be lovely to see your 'non-frugal' shopping. I don't even know if mine comes fully into 'frugal' territory at the moment. 🤔

  3. Could I politely ask, what do you do with tinned potatoes? I haven't eaten them since childhood and my memory of them is that they were slimey!😂

    1. First I always rinse them, it's the liquid the can that makes them seem slimey. I use them in stews, curries and as roast potatoes if I don't have any fresh potatoes ... or sometimes if I'm too lazy to peel potatoes. 😁

  4. You are certainly well stocked up now. I have to say though, when I look at what is in my shopping trolley I think how little there is for the BIG price I paid for it. I used to come out of Aldi or Lidl, delighted with how much I had got for my money. Not any more.

    1. I think because so many supermarkets are 'price matching' Aldi there can be better offers to be had mixing this with the loyalty cards etc, if you shop wisely. I find my reading glasses are on more and more in the shops these days checking the price per 100g.

  5. I find people’s weekly shopping interesting, sometimes inspiring. I used to visit markets, grocery shops and supermarkets when we travelled. I try to shop and cook healthily, but then DH buys cakes, sweets, and biscuits, as if he really wants diabetes, leaving the evidence in the car.

    1. Oh I find a lot of random wrappers in the car that Alan has forgotten to hide, especially just recently while he is working with all the builders. ;-)

  6. I find I'm getting less and less for my money lately. This week's delivery cost £57.36 for just 40 items, and contained the makings of 3 meals plus baked beans for lunches either on toast or with a baked potato. The rest was mainly for stocking up again. Tinned fruit seems to be rocketing in price so I bought 5 tins. It's good to see your shopping! I find it interesting :)

    1. There is definitely a lot of price hikes and a lot of shrinkflation too. I'm going to a much simplified eating regime going forward, hence the tinned fish, beans and vegetables.

  7. I think its super interesting to see how other households are managing - especially as it appears you are on the other side of the pond. I spend around $60 each week to feed little old me and I do a lot of cooking. I probably should eat more beans, so thank you for the nudge!

    1. Oh I am definitely on this side of the pond, although I have relatives on the other side. I am trying to eat more lentils, beans etc along with my fresh vegetables.

  8. I noticed the lovely Pak Choi in the Riverford box, I’m growing them this year, first time for a few years but they are so useful aren’t they?
We are no longer ordering any meat from Tesco because we have such a great local butcher here, but the weekly grocery cost is still huge compared to even a couple of years ago.

    1. I'll have to be honest I wasn't that keen on it. It was down to be Swiss Chard in the vegetable box and I had a good, and very puzzled look at it when it arrived!!

  9. I love posts about people’s shopping and often get ideas from what I see. Branston beans for me as I find the Heinz ones too sweet. I noticed the price of coffee has already gone up and no deals on it either. Catriona

    1. We noticed some good coffee prices in Asda the other day, but by then I had already bought the two jars of Nescafe that I needed. I thought I would try these reduced sugar and salt beans for a change, I didn't realised that they contained Stevia though. :-(

  10. I enjoy your shopping pictures. Its nice for me to see familiar brands or sometimes more modern packaging than I remember. As for prices it gives me a chance to tut tut over our Canadian food prices which are horrendous. We eat Heinz British style beans, as they are labelled here, and for once the price seems comparable. We are also Weetabix fans.

    1. Oh Canadian and Australian food prices are terrible aren't they, I really feel for you. Your only consolation are the wage discrepancies between here and there. Our minimum wages are much lower than yours.

  11. I, too, enjoy seeing posts about other people's grocery shopping and seeing the prices of items. My daughter gifted me with a year's membership to the supermarket's paid membership program which enables me to get next day grocery deliveries free of charge with a minimum purchase of $35 and other special member discounts. The monthly fee for the membership averages to $5.75 and I have already saved enough through the special offers to pay for this month's membership fee. I am stocking up on things in anticipation of increasing grocery prices and possible supply issues, as well.

  12. The beans were a good deal! We haven't consciously stocked up because of world events, but Dave is a habitual "over-shopper" on non-perishables, so we have lots of staples stocked up almost by accident. :)

    1. I think I have a panic when I see empty spaces in my cupboard after years of barely making do when my boys were small. We literally lived from hand to mouth for years, and it wasn't much better when I was little.

  13. Good shopping hauls and I agree there is a big difference between photos and talking me through it. I am also starting to do more of a stock up, taking advantage of sale prices and the lower prices at our Walmart Supercenter.

    God bless.

    1. Photos you can just take a glance or play 'spot the product' can't you, it's much better. Some of the YouTubers I used to watch can send me to sleep droning on and on.

  14. The only thing I find interesting about my very rare trips to supermarkets are looking in other people's shopping baskets!

  15. Personally, I love the shopping posts! First off, it's fun to see your food variety since I'm in another country. 2nd, I love to see the prices and how well you shop and stick to your budget. I find those posts inspiring.

    1. It was nice having some extra cash to spend after all my Facebook Marketplace sales, it gave me a little bit of a break from rigid budgeting.
