I've watched some really interesting YouTube videos over the last few days, slotted in here and there between shopping, visiting and visits to us. Sometimes I choose YouTube in preference to watching a pre-recorded television programme because I can pick and choose and slot in viewing in the space it takes me to eat lunch or have a cup of coffee. I can also watch it in preference to the news, as once I have heard the headlines I feel a real urge to take a step back. After all there's nothing I can do except live my life calmly, quietly and as peacefully as possible.
28 minutes long
Just recently I have been watching a few tips and money saving channels and really retro ideas that actually make sense for now. One that I came across on Saturday was this one. Try and ignore the annoying AI voice, but enjoy the photos that don't quite match up with the words, I found some of them made me laugh, so it was entertaining in every sense of the word.
Wouldn't a step back to a lot of the old ways be a welcome relief at the moment, well I think so ... but then I am a Granny. 😄
My washing goes out on the line in all but the worst of the weather, I shop predominately with cash, I don't buy what I don't need and I repair what I already have. I reuse, recycle and re-invent before I throw most things away. Oh, I make mistakes sometimes, but then don't we all. But doing our best in difficult times can only be a good thing.
Under 9 minutes long.
This more food based one is charmingly retro, and very on point with todays escalating food prices. It's also American so I loved the completely different foods that it shows. I do like the idea of 'biscuits and gravy' still popular I believe in the USA today, but for me in the UK that always brings to mind a dish of custard cream biscuits smothered in Bisto. 😐
This mornings little 'reset' was lightly stewing up six little apples that had lived in the fridge for far too long. One portion for breakfast with a Weetabix and three more in the fridge for later in the week. Nothing wasted, everything being used up in a good way ... granny would have been proud.

ReplyDeletePressed publish too soon first time
DeleteWeird that you should have a picture and mention the washing on the line - another coincidence between our blogs today - spooky!
I only seem to find you tubes that make me cross! and have a blog post about that later in the week - more coincidences
I know!! I went over to read yours after I published this ... great minds think alike eh, and well ... it is Monday!! ;-)
DeleteI have some days when they make me cross too. I once even got a bit cross at Jude (Rewilding Jude), he kept walking backwards and forwards over and over ... I was obviously having a bad day. :-)
DeleteIt must have been a bad day. Who could be cross with Jude
DeleteHaha, I know!! 😄
DeleteSue, thanks for sharing those channels. And you mentioned biscuits and gravy...that is what I make on most Saturday mornings. I brown some breakfast sausage, mix it with a packet of white gravy and we eat it over biscuits. It's delicious!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to give it a go. I'm a dab hand at making scones, and savoury scones seem to be the same as your 'biscuits'. I've never poured a white sausagey sauce over them before though. It all sounds intriguing, but very frugal and relatively healthy too. :-)
DeleteI’m fascinated by ‘biscuits and gravy’ and have often researched online recipes for same - haven’t actually made any yet but my sister ,who lives in the USA, but hadn’t tried them until recently says they are delicious and Debbie above agrees so I must give it a go 😀
ReplyDeleteTQ for the YouTube recommendations

I'm definitely going to give it a go. :-)
DeleteI used to live in Texas and the white gravy was also served over steak or chicken fried in batter. It’s creamy and peppery and absolutely delicious!
DeleteNow you're making me want it even more. 😀
DeleteThanks for sharing the videos-I’ll sit down later and enjoy watching them. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, they were a bit different to the ones that I usually watch, but very enjoyable. 😀
DeleteI really struggle with YouTube videos, there's too many amateurs babbling on and saying "errrr", I have to turn off!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to start hanging my washing outside, it goes on the ceiling drying rack in the utility room in the Winter, it dries fairly quickly but you risk being garrotted by a maxi dress when the cat wants his tea! xxx
I really don't like the ones where people just sit and talk to the camera, and 'occasionally' try and sell you something. I need to have a reason to watch. Err, umm and 'you know' or 'like' is just lazy English.
DeleteI'm jealous, I have always wanted a Sheila Maid to dry my washing on indoors. I've just never had ceilings that were high enough. ☹️
I enjoy watching the older vlogs. I need to do that a bit more often.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Some of these nostalgia type ones are really good. It feels like getting tips from your Granny. 🙂
DeleteThank you for the video links. I enjoy watching videos like these. I still do some of the things they mention as they are normal, everyday things for me to do. :)
ReplyDeleteI do a lot of them too, and after watching I think I may even do a few more. 😀
DeleteSome vloggers want to tell you their life story before they get to the point.I can't watch them.
ReplyDeleteAny repetitive bits I fast forward, seemingly so do lots of other people as it says so in the top corner of the screen as I do it. :-)
DeleteI'm longing to hang my washing out again. Sadly there's still too much wood smoke around, if I put it out it would get stinky and need washing again. Hopefully in a few more weeks that will have stopped. For now it's the utility room and the dehumidifier.
ReplyDeleteIt makes such a difference when you can get the washing out on the line doesn't it. There's nothing worse than washing going out clean and coming back in smelling of any sort of smoke, that happened to me a few times back in Wales. I hope yours can go out soon. xx
DeleteLovely post Sue. I mainly watch YouTube now. Always learn something new and it's so refreshing to hear real people. Plus i can mostly avoid the hustle culture and 'celebrities'.
ReplyDeleteOh so called 'celebrities' are anything but these days aren't they. I don't tend to recognise many of them any more. 🤔
DeleteThank you, Sue, for the YouTube videos ... they were amazing. I do a few of those things as I learnt them from my mother. If we all did one or two things like this, it would certainly help our wallets. From Darlene in NZ
ReplyDeleteI seem to be addicted to watching these now, they are just long enough to watch while I eat my dinner, and because I'm already eating they don't make me hungry!! :-)
