With last weekend's shopping being so heavy on
books and light on food I thought I better reverse things a bit this week. Somehow
yet another plant fell into my supermarket trolley ... before I had even entered the store.
And on the way out a book leapt into my hands, oh well it only made me pay £1 for it. 😄
I had already stocked myself up on these again from the big Sainsbury's in Sale, after visiting Mum and having our lunch around the corner. Ten pounds worth of Deliciously Ella Breakfast Bakes, totally delicious and handy to have in for those days when I really don't really feel like anything 'proper' for breakfast. On special offer at two pounds per box instead of three, and it made use of the money you get back via a coupon from paying to park in the supermarket carpark. Hopefully these will last me the six months that the last purchase did.
Happily my July pension payment went into my account.
Unhappily, my July tax bill landed on the doormat. Gulp!!
Oh well, as Alan said we have had the wages, we have to man-up and pay the tax man. Sadly, it's time to jiggle some money around from my savings to pay this.
I did manage to make £15 by selling a little cupboard on Facebook Market place, but there is definitely more going out than coming in. Numbers are not stacking up well. 😒
Thank goodness for a few free things this week, after all every little helps.
Two napkins, bringing unused napkins home off our trays has definitely saved me from buying paper kitchen towel since I started doing it.
A couple more napkins and a box of teabags for Alan via my Booths card.
Two sugars picked up from a coffee shop in Sale, where we went in preference to stopping off at the services after seeing Mum on Thursday.
Hope you all have a good weekend. xx

I now take away the little biscuits that come with our coffees and put them in the front pocket of my bag-handy when you need a drink but don’t really want a lot to eat with it. I’ve had to stop eating bananas because of my new BP medication so have had to rethink my breakfast. Tinned prunes are the current choice with my porridge. Catriona
ReplyDeleteYes I do that if I don't want to eat them at the time we get them I also buy the little twin packs of Biscoff biscuits and try and have them in my bag. There are very few places round here that have dairy-free cakes so at least I can have these while Alan is tucking into a carrot cake or scone. 😀
DeleteI love anything that has the words peanut butter in the title. Budgeting on pensions is certainly a challenge at times.

Peanut butter is lovely, and the Deliciously Ella jars that I buy are just gorgeous. I need to have a no shopping and no books month I think and get my budget back under control.
DeleteWe had a pot of that breakfast blend tea recently at David Austin Roses. It had an unusual taste, not unpleasant, and was strangely yellow, like iodine, so odd that we went to ask about the teabags used. It was quite pricey in the shop.
ReplyDeleteWe use loose leaf supermarket gold or red label tea, or Aldi green tea removed from the tea bags before brewing.
It will be interesting to see what Alan makes of it then. I'll ask him for a review. 😀
DeleteSeemingly, it should have been £2.75 for the box.
I like the idea of using paper napkins instead of kitchen towel, as it is getting really expensive. At home we use 'proper' napkins when we eat but don't wash them every time they are used. That way they last us a few days use. As soon as they start getting a bit grubby we pop them in the wash.
ReplyDeleteWe never use napkins at home, my bathroom is literally four steps away from the living room so I tend to just go and wash my hands. Anything else and I just grab a paper tissue from the box in the drawer next to me. I guess I should be a bit more 'refined'. 😄
