Burgers, Sausages and Posh Fish Fingers

I needed paracetamols, bananas and bread ... and this is what I came home with.

It was a nice mooch around a very quiet Sainsbury's yesterday morning and I browsed the shelves and fridge and gave into temptation.  I did get quite a few things that boosted my Nectar points total which is always a good thing, but a lot of what I got wasn't strictly necessary.

Some of the things were for Alan, the custard tarts, the kippers, the cough sweets and the reduced priced coleslaw but the rest was all for me.  Well, I will be sharing the little OGGS cakes when we next go to visit Mum, she does like a tasty little sweet thing and usually I get left out but these are dairy free so I can partake too.  😁

The Linda McCartney meat-free sausages and burgers were on a good offer, buy two and get one free, so I chose to get two packs of burgers and one of sausages.

These are the best meat-free burgers that I have ever tasted and I usually have them once every month or so. I don't like the ones that are trying too hard to be meaty or the ones that are like a slab of flavoured cardboard but these just hit the sweet spot of being 'near enough' without tipping me over into 'I'm eating a real burger' territory.  Happily Alan likes them too, so it makes for a nice light evening meal that we can share on the patio at this time of year.

I don't really know why I bought these more expensive than usual fish fingers.  I was looking at all the usual candidates and they all seemed super thin and none were on offer, so when I saw these reduced from £4.50 to £3.75, I just picked them up and put them in my trolley.  The perils of shopping when you're hungry!!

I bet you can guess what's for lunch today.  😄

  1. I get the Tesco BIG cod fish fingers - £4 for 6 and that does me 3 meals. I like the Linda McCartney burgers too, but haven't tried her sausages.

    1. Yes, these will do me 3 meals too. Probably 2 x fish finger butties and one meal with mash or homemade wedges and peas. 😃

I've found the Lincolnshire sausages are the nicest. ❤️

  2. Another fan of the Linda McCartney burgers here. I get the big fish fingers too, normal sized ones have shrunk so much you can barely taste the fish anymore.

    1. I was shocked at how skinny the fish layer was even on the box picture. I mean, if the photo looks that skimpy with the fish what will the reality look like!! 😳

  3. I bought the Linda Mc mozarella centred burgers to try as a change from the standard ones. Far too sickly for me..I used to love the mushroom & ale pies they did, best veggie pies ever. Then they stopped making them but a dedicated google search found the young lady whose recipe had won the competition. Quick step to the recipe so best ever veggie pies back on the menu!

    1. I used to love the Red Onion and Rosemary Sausage Plaits, but they were discontinued too. ☹️

Well done on finding the recipe, I did almost the same with the 'plaits' but I just made it up as I went along.

  7. Your “cashier confirmed over 16” note for the purchase of those paracetamol tablets reminded me that on Saturday we had the same note for the purchase of a bottle of 0% wine!
The cashier who came across to approve the sale agreed it was hilarious but said Sainsbury’s have found it easier than trying to differentiate a normal bottle of wine from a zero alcohol one!

    1. Yes, that happened to us once. It's good to know why though, thanks. 😀

    1. Alan says he's going to try the kippers over the weekend, seemingly they are a lot better for not leaving the house smelling of fish all day as they cook so quickly in the microwave. :-)

    God bless.
