The trees in the woods accept themselves for what they are.
We have so much to learn from nature, if we just slowed right down and appreciated our wonderful earth for what it is and what it gives us, and stopped listening to the leaders fighting over pockets of it and ways of life, and instead learnt to live like the trees how much better it would all be.
Can you tell I've been watching far too much news?
Well not anymore. The six o'clock news can come and go and I won't be there watching it anymore. I stopped watching the ten o'clock news a long time ago, all that bad stuff so close to bedtime was not a good idea. In fact since we lost that lovely segment with the late, great Trevor McDonald ... 'And Finally' ... something light hearted or heart-warming to round off the 20 minutes of doom and gloom that he had just had to deliver to our homes, it has never been the same.
So many of us have reached the stage in our lives where we can begin to slow down, to settle into the lives that we want to live and start to enjoy all the sacrifices that we have made over the years to get us to this space.
It's a very good feeling.
It's not all perfect, at our ages there are health issues that pop up out of nowhere, things that we still do have to do whether we like it or not, but these days, happily, hopefully, they are few and far between. But it's so much better than it used to be.
As long as we can avoid the doom and gloom of the news, the negative Nellies that have a problem for every solution, and instead focus on the good things that happen rather than dwelling for far too long on the bad .. not always easiest thing to do I know ... we should just about get through our days relatively sanely.

Well done you 👏
ReplyDelete"Only allow GOOD things in". I may have seen that in a meme, or absorbed it by some osmosis from a book or website. Earlier this year I realised I could not continue to bring horrible things into my life experience on a daily basis. My habit of listening to all the BBC Americast and Newscast recordings plus scrolling through far too many news channels available on the TV stopped, completely, overnight, cold-turkey. It's been great!
Thank you for this Sue…the timing was perfect… meant to be. I just needed to be reminded. I will go forward with hope in my heart, challenging in such a sad world at the moment. x June
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the new for over a year now. Keith was a news hound and would have it on 24/7, like his mum. He liked to know what was going on in the world and didn't think much to the BBC rendition and would watch Al Jazeera news which covered the Middle East and worldwide with no political agenda.
ReplyDeleteI live in the past with my history and archaeology, and that is a better place to be!
Forgot to say such a blissful photo of the woods, I could certainly lose myself in there at the moment. June
ReplyDeletePhilippians 4v8 says "Whatsoever things are true, lovely, pure, honourable etc etc...think about THOSE things"
ReplyDeleteI miss Trevor McD and his "and finally..." too
'News? What news, where?' We watch Richard Osman House of Games at 6 for half an hour's silliness and are generally heading up towards bed and book at 10!
ReplyDeleteI look at BBC news website on my phone to get the headlines and move swiftly on.
And yes, that photograph of trees... and breathe...
DeleteGood advice. Thanks and I hope you are feeling good in yourself.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the news for nearly 10 years. When I get a glimpse of the presenters it's a real shock how they've aged.
ReplyDeleteLike many others, I found myself 'doom scrolling' at the beginning of the year. I've stopped now. The world has gone mad but there's nothing I can do to change that. We just carry on with our simple life. Enjoying our garden, wildlife, and regular UK holidays.
I love the tree picture. I realised a long time ago that I couldn't manage without seeing trees.
So true to take our cues from nature, we only watch the headlines before heading for bed at 10
ReplyDeleteI'd completely forgotten about the lovely Trevor and his final news section. It was lovely to end on a happy note. We haven't watched the 10pm news for more than a year and are considering skipping the 6pm news too. Everything is far too frightening and depressing, and we are powerless to stop it. Our allotment gives us a lot of pleasure and relaxation and we are so grateful for it. Your tree picture is a powerful reminder that we, as individuals, are a very small part of the universe. We can only do our best in our own way.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really lively post, Sue, thsnk you,
Angie x
I meant lovely post, of course 🤣 x
DeleteI do agree. We watch Richard Osman's House of Games instead of 6 o'clock news then watch local news after that. There is nothing we can do about the terrible things happening in the world, seeing the news makes me feel useless and impotent. Trevor McDonald was lovely and that voice! Regards Sue H
