Rest Your Eyes

After the seriousness of the last post, let's relax into something pretty as we head towards the end of the month.  A lovely woodland home with rocking chairs and a swing on the front porch would do me just fine.

Funnily enough at the garden centre last weekend I sat on a reduced price garden rocking chair and said 'This would be great for our next house.'  Then as we walked away, heading to the café and our free coffees, I remembered my old swing and told Alan that it had to be in use again when we move.

Wood panelling, pretty wallpaper, rustic wooden furniture, and coffee and biscuits ... my idea of heaven.

Strangely, I have a little house like the one next to that gorgeous jug.

That's just about as much colour as I can take, I'm a predominantly white and green sort of girl, but I could cope with this lovely bedroom with it's books and plants. 💚

And to finish my little journey into 'wish-land' a dresser filled with homemade preserves and foods, flowers and old jars.

Sometimes it's just nice to rest your eyes on beautiful images, and occasionally take some inspiration from them. 💖

  1. you are right - that bedroom is so attractive but it would take me less than 24 hours to hate having to stand on the bed to reach the books and have to move the plants in order to draw curtains.

Err .. that's at least twice you have quietly dropped "next house" in the middle of a paragraph - anything you are ready to share? 🥰

    1. I wouldn't mind too much having to stand on the bed to reach a book, but after the Summer we've had up to now here, I would be very worried about greenfly in the bedroom ... and perhaps swallowing them while I was asleep!!

We had planned to be seriously looking this year, but we may have to delay a bit as we had problems selling the Welsh flat, so now it's rented out again ... and we don't have that capital in our bank accounts. But Alan HAS decided his house is too big for him so we are continuing to look for 'bargains' ... haha, are there any bargain houses these days?

  2. The images are very lovely. Snap - in our last house OH fixed up a swing ,exactly like yours, for me in the garden. Sadly it was left behind and there isn't anywhere immediately obvious for a swing in our new place - but never say never 😀

    1. I brought the seat of mine with me as it was my sixtieth birthday present off Alan, but I left the tow rope that he hung it from the rafters of the garage from behind. I think some nice rope for it when we finally find a place to have it up again.

  3. Hi Sue, I have read your blogs for many years, and I so enjoy them so I thought it was about time I commented on them, and what inspired me to do so was because of those beautiful photos you have posted on your blog, today, I absolutely love them all, the cabin makes me want to live there too, but my moving days are over unfortunately, I’ve always been a restless soul, always wanted to move on, but now I’m in my last home and I love it, a darling retirement flat and I’m happy to stay here now. So sad about your darling doggies, I know how you feel , i have had many in my life but not any more, but I have the memories of all the love and joy they have brought me. You are so like me in many ways, in as much as what brings you joy, and I so look forward to your blogs . I wish you happiness in whatever life has in store for you best wishes Daphne Goodenough x

  6. A very bad time for house selling at the moment - in Suffolk anyway. Everything is being reduced and reduced and still not moving yet they continue to start to build huge new housing estates - then they are either stopped building because they can't sell or the company have run out of money.

    1. There are concerns that many companies are not completing, or declaring bankruptcy, as a way of avoiding the requirements for them to build good access roads or other infrastructure. Seeing that a lot here in Norfolk lately

  7. I noticed the phrase “next house” had crept in a couple of times recently and thought you may be on the lookout. We seem to be having a selling boom where we live because it is in the area of a magnet school. The new overpriced houses however have ground to a halt for lack of buyers. I have been decluttering and selling stuff on Vinted with help from my daughter and have made a tidy sum for my two charities. We keep looking at flats near us but Norrie definitely isn’t ready to leave his large workshop behind just yet. Very warm here today so tidied some of the garden very early this morning. Catriona

  8. Beautiful photos and so very restful, thank you :) Golly, yes, I remember that swing! Next home? You little devil teasing us like that...lol... I don't think I could face another move. We've been here almost 4 years and it has absolutely flown by.

  9. I absolutely adore that cabin. It would take something like that to make me move again. After what feels like a lifetime of moving we've now been here for 5.5 years and we're still happy. That may change of course, we're agreed that if incessantly barking dogs moved in next door we'd be off, but fingers crossed it looks like our lovely neighbours are here for the long haul too.
Of course if I win the lottery then a big estate of trees with a sunny glade, cabin, and lake will be at the top of my shopping list.

  10. The little house, the calm bedroom, and the dresser full of preserves all paint such a lovely picture of comfort.

  11. What lovely cottages. I'm a city girl, but a week in a cabin -- it's been 95+ here -- somewhere cool sounds so good.
