It will look even prettier in a few weeks when the rest of the bulbs come through. It's nice to have them close to me at the front door, and back together again.
Six of the Best
I was asked a while back what my favourite YouTube channels were at the moment, and if they have changed much from when I used to do the regular 'Weekend Watching' series on my old blog 'A Smaller Life'. So I thought I would do a quick post with links to six of my current favourites. I'll insert the last video that I watched in each case.
So six of the best in no particular order of favouritism.
Kris Atomic's videos are all masterpieces of video editing, her humour is right on point and they are lovely to sit and relax over with a huge mug of coffee on a Sunday morning.
Freya and Charlie are a married couple that show some lovely vegan recipes, shopping trips and little trips around their local area. Their website with all their recipes is on my sidebar.
Family Freedom are a lovely London family that do all sorts of challenge videos, mostly food and shopping related. Although the camera work can sometimes be a little bit dodgy, the videos are great fun to watch.
This Tiny Life is another narrow boating channel. Although the couple can seem a bit scatty at times they are both so likeable and their little boy and dog are adorable. They took on an allotment and got a beehive last year so there is all sorts of day to day content.
Flawless Cleaning is made up of Ben, his Dad, his Uncle Colin and lots of other very generous helpers who give of their time, services and expertise to help other people, especially the elderly, in their area. They are currently working on a very large project but in between episodes of Jim's extension they have gone back to their roots and are helping to clear the local area of rubbish and fly tipping, cutting back hedges along roadsides, and surprising people with little garden makeovers.
I can't let this little round up of my favourite YouTube channels without mentioning Frugal Jake and his The Kitchen Scrap wartime recipe and challenge channel. He spent a whole year living on WWII UK rations, and threw his all into creating some fantastic recipes from old cookbooks, most of which I have, so it was good to see them being cooked from. His editing and comedy skills are top notch as is his love for all things Maggie Smith. 😄
I hope you enjoy this little round-up of some of my current favourites, there are a few more that I still watch regularly but I have tempered my YouTube viewing quite a lot since I gave up on the Ad-Free subscription ... gosh I hate adverts!!
That's a really clever idea, a memorial planter by the door. My YouTube watching is mostly tutorials for whatever I'm doing, and browsing for music. I'll give your channels a try... Although I love the one of some German Shepherds trying out different foods; the captions make me laugh!
It started off as my tin bath of herbs, but they kept getting eaten by something and I gave up. So it turned into a flower planter when Suky's ashes came back. Now they are back together again, and it means that when we move house we will be able to take them with us.
YouTube is brilliant for finding out how to do some things and fix things isn't it, but I have to admit to watching it mostly for entertainment purposes first thing in the morning or while I'm eating lunch.
I'm not such an avid YouTube watcher as others. My OH is very keen on woodwork/repair/recycle stuff, and also ones about the evolution of words and grammar. And historical cookery. An eclectic mix, and as we sit side by side in the study, working at our screens, I often end up watching with him. I admire the people who put good pieces together . Can't stand half baked, badly filmed stuff though....
It takes a bit of practice to get up to a good standard for filming for YouTube and the right equipment, even a basic holder for your phone helps. Alan only watches woodwork and repair stuff on television programmes, he doesn't know what he's missing.
I'm going to enjoy dipping into those videos, thank you for the recommendations. Can I suggest Rewilding Jude? The potted history is - Jude is in his mid 30's and lost both his parents in 2023, they died of cancer 6 weeks apart, they were just in their 60's. No other relatives so he handled all the sadmin himself. Decided that he needed to follow his heart and bought a cottage in Aberdeenshire (he's from the home counties) it need a big reno job on it. His weekly vids have produced lots of caring substitute mums, grandmas, aunties etc from all round the world and DIY guys who offer advice on how to carry out the tasks that he's taken on. I don't think that I've ever seen a channel grow like his. He got to 50k subscribers in 20 videos. They are good fun to watch. Plus he has a cat too.
I was thinking that sounds right up my street, then I thought that sounds familiar, then I realised that yes, I am subscribed to Jude's channel. I have only watched a few episodes up to now though and didn't know his back story, so thank you for that. I will have to go back and watch him from the very beginning. He seems a very likeable young man from what I have seen up to now.
Thank you for the recommendation though, I LOVE getting recommendations for both YouTubers to follow and blogs to read. We are mostly very much on the same wavelength and of a similar age, me and my readers I mean. :-)
I don't spend much time watching youtube - the ads are so annoying and some people waffle without saying anything but I'm afraid that however much I'm begged to watch ads - I skip ASAP Rewilding Jude as mentioned above is good - now and again
Oh the ads are dire and pop up so randomly on YouTube, that's why I treated myself to a couple of ad-free months after an offer popped up. But then I found I was watching far too much and I missed my reading, so I cancelled it and snaffled Alan's reading lamp for the dark Winter mornings.
I totally agree that some people waffle on for far too long, I rarely watch videos with people just talking to the camera or telling me things that I already know. I do stay subscribed to the people that I know though to help their algorithm, and I used to let their videos run while I was in the shower to get them some revenue ... and keep Mavis entertained. I cannot abide the videos with people sat doing their hair and make-up and then trying to sell you something.
We didn't want to scatter their ashes in the garden as we will possibly be moving house again in the next couple of years. This is perfect as they can come with us.
Anyone may leave a comment, but please keep it nice and keep it friendly ... or you will be deleted. I have no time whatsoever for nastiness or trolls, but differing opinions are usually welcome.
If you find you have to comment Anonymously for technical reasons please always leave your first name at the end of your comments. I'm sorry but comments with no name will be deleted.

I enjoy the Family Freedom videos too. They come over as such a lovely and loving family and can be very funny too. xx
ReplyDeleteThey are fun aren't they ... 'you can't leave it there for that' ... and JoJo is such a well-rounded polite young man he's a pleasure to watch.
DeleteThat’s such a lovely idea to keep Suky and Mavis near you in the lovely planter. I’ll have a look at the videos-thank you. Catriona
