On the Porch, Drinking Coffee

This came up on my feed the other day and it really got me thinking.

I think it's all about the time of your life that you are in isn't it.  It's also that some people need to be busy all the time, some people need to be seen to be busy all the time, there is a huge difference.

I was the former, then I was the latter, then I felt guilty for doing less, then the guilt stopped.

Now I would rather be on the porch drinking coffee.

Ooh ... should we build a porch on the bungalow? 😀

No, I think decking or a patio at the back would suffice.

  1. I wish I had read this when I was in my twenties! I guess we all learn the hard way. Thanks once again for posting these little nuggets of light bulb moments. June

    1. Yes, we all have to learn it for ourselves don't we, it's just the way of the world. It seems especially more so these days, where it can be seen as a good thing to be 'rushed off your feet'.

  2. Completely agree. I still do too much sometimes and it caught up with me just before Christmas. A cold floored me and it may me rest, read and catch up on some recorded tv programmes. I saved the saying today and I’ll make myself look at it when I feel I have taken on too much. Catriona

    1. Things can definitely knock us for six health wise if we push ourselves too hard can't they.

  3. Are you planning your garden there yet? Will you be growing more veg do you think?

    1. Haha ... that definitely made me laugh out loud. There will be no garden to even think of planning until after we move in, which will probably be nine months to a year from now. The 'garden' currently houses a soil mountain and a block mountain, with old slippery paths around the edge. The front garden houses piles of new blocks, bags of sand and cement and a skip.

  4. That's such a good insight.
A decent sized porch is high on my list of wantables, not that I'm likely to get one. Not necessarily enclosed, but a seat, place for wet umbrellas, for deliveries out of sight and in the dry. Morning sun is on the front of the house but I feel a bit conspicuous sitting outside the front door with my coffee! And roses growing around, of course!

    1. We seem to get the sun most of the day at the back of the house, so we are thinking of decking at the back. We did think of building a small enclosed porch for coats and boots etc. but we have had to cut back on costs, so we have altered the plans to a small hallway inside for that instead.

  5. I must admit that we have tried to get out of the being busy to feel a sense of worth state. Lots of people really don’t get it and just think we are bone idle … and sometimes we are … but I hate the idea of rushing from one commitment to another. IF we can achieve one thing a day then I’m happy. Anything else is a bonus 😀. IM enjoying seeing what you are doing with your new bungalow and looking forward to seeing it all come together. Carol. 1. I think we need to get away from how other people's opinions can make us feel unproductive don't we. It seems like everyone is programmed to be busy these days, it starts with all the after school clubs and carrys on into adult life. It makes it hard to step away from. 🫤

  7. I always wonder about people who have to have all their days planned and busy, I like to breath between days and hate to have something on every day.

    1. It is lovely to have a calm completely free day isn't it. Time to recharge your batteries and just potter a while. 😀

  8. Sounds lovely! Except, I don't have a porch and I don't much care for coffee! Can I substitute sitting in my chair and knitting, instead?

  9. I’ve noticed my calendar has filled up substantially in the past couple of weeks - going to have to check those ‘appointments’ are all really necessary or I’ll be tearing my hair out wondering when I’ll get a free minute to myself.

I’m definitely one for sitting outside with a drink of some sort…..build your deck Sue - and cover some of it so you get a year round benefit.

    1. My calendar was a lovely blank affair for about two days into the New Year, then it started filling up alarmingly. I've been wondering if there is someway that we can cover part of the decking. 🤔

  10. I've been trying to do less in the evenings in recent times but I'm still feeling a bit bored by it and feeling like I could be doing more! Just said yes to another concert- probably going to regret that when I feel knackered!!!

    1. If you're feeling bored by it, it could be a sign that you WANT to do more, it's if you feel guilty by it, then you know you're just reacting to conditioning that we HAVE to be busy.
