Taking It To Another Level

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's post, sorry but I didn't have time to answer them all individually.  It's been a bit chaotic here, we are still in the midst of organising the renovations on Mum's bungalow, finally closing our company down and all that that entails.  We have also been backwards and forwards to the vets with Mavis, and Alan has had extra diabetes monitoring appointments.

All in all we've had a busy start to this year, with my March calendar already filling up with dates that we are unavailable for anything extra.  Years ago I would have loved the busyness of it all, now I see it as something to plough our way through, with hopefully a quiet evening at the end of each busy day.

Whilst trying to keep on top of everything, we are also trying to build in things that are just for ourselves, so we went to see the new Bridget Jones film on Sunday night.  It was really good, a couple of hours of laughter, sadness and memories of the earlier films, but overall totally joyous.

This morning after Alan's doctors appointment and my gentle walk around the park with Mavis, and then a vets visit, we decided to stop off at Booths for a cooked breakfast and an hour to ourselves to discuss the rest of the days business busyness.

I went one step further than my usual bringing home of all the little extras off our tray, by spotting some little packs of butter left on the table next to ours.  I swiftly gathered them up, just before the table was cleared and all the other remnants were swept into the bin.  So, five of the butter pats were rescue ones and the other one was the one that Alan didn't use on his toast.

And then I went even further, and I deposited my leftover scrambled eggs into a plastic bag.  Just a little something for Mavis to have for her tea ... she will love it, and it will make a nice change from her current diet of chicken and dog kibble.

It seems that I am on a mission this year to both jettison my excess and gather in that which we need if it will stop wastage.

Sue xx

  1. Saving the egg for Mavis makes perfect sense, I would do exactly the same for our dogs. Thinking of you as you negotiate all your business/busyness.

  2. Waste not, want not. I pour the last of the little jug of milk into my cup to finish it when we have our member’s free pot of tea at the garden centre. I save the paper napkin too, if it is clean, and any used, mini jam jars I see, with the permission of the staff.
A tin of fruit lasts for several days in a jar in the fridge, as we have one or two pieces with the breakfast porridge or muesli, and I save the juice or syrup, and rinsings of jars of jam or marmalade to add to the bara brith.
Daisy Dog cleans the plastic pots perfectly for recycling, the litre yoghurt pot, the cream, and the butter spread, and she has the rinsings of the milk bottle and saucepans,

    1. Yes, we do all of your things too ... although Alan just picks up his little milk jugs in cafe's and drinks the leftover milk straight out of them. Mavis LOVES to lick out little pots, Suky used to run off with them and we'd find them under furniture where she'd tried to lick them out and lost control of them.

  3. Betty loves scrambled egg, whenever we have it for breakfast or lunch she always gets a portion too. If she's unwell I do it for her, in place of anything meaty. What's wrong with Mavis?

    1. She has fluid build up in her chest cavity, and is on palliative care to keep her comfortable and to aid her breathing. We have to keep having her medication revised to keep her as comfortable and active as she enjoys being. The steroids are helping a lot and she's now on them permanently.

    1. Today is a much quieter day, thank goodness. I was going to do a bit in the garden while I could but then it started raining, so I'm on my computer doing non-work things instead. :-)

She loved her eggs, it's reminded us to make them for her more often. She loves the pats, thank you. xx

  9. My mother-in-law used to do that: she would always order a teacake and only manage to eat half of it, then wrap the other half in a napkin and "pop it in her bag for later that day". And then forget about it . . .

I hope Mavis' vet visits have only been elderly maintenance and nothing serious, xx

I know what you mean about busy - I am also having one of those weeks where not one single day is my own and I really resent it 😬

    1. Oh gosh, mouldy teacake in your handbag ... not a good thing. I make sure to check through my bag as soon as we get home ... although the scrambled eggs were in my pockets so that they didn't get too squished. :-)

Mavis is on palliative care, she has fluid in her chest cavity that needs a changing amount of water tablets to help disperse it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that resents intrusions on my time ... bloody work and problems, enough already!!
