I bought this washing up liquid back in November (see here), and because I quite like the simplicity of the bottle I left it out on the sink, and I used the liquid directly from the bottle instead of my usual decanting into a push top dispenser.
You'd think that by now I would know better wouldn't you.
Even though I thought that I was being careful with my little squirt into the washing up bowl each time I used it, I have already used well over half. So the rest has now been decanted, where hopefully it will last me a bit longer.
Of course I managed to get all of the washing up liquid out of the bottle, first by pouring, then by turning it upside down and pouring a little bit more, then by balancing the bottle directly on top of the dispenser for an hour so it could drip, drip, drip.
Then finally by rinsing out the bottle and dropping the top into the bowl before I started on the teatime pots.
I will now see how long the second half of the bottle lasts me with dispensing rather than squirting.
Riveting stuff eh!! 😁
Sue xx
What a great idea Sue, I always use too much…the bowl looks like a bubble bath. Thanks. June
ReplyDeleteI decant most things, shampoo and shower gel etc. things just last so much longer this way. I fell for the nice simple bottle design and didn't this time. Lesson learned. 🫤
DeleteThat water definitely had too many bubbles, they were just from throwing the top into the bowl while the tap was running and giving the bottle a quick rinse out. I must remember to do one or the other not both next time.
Oh yes. Dispensers (often just a reused bottle) for washing up liquid, shampoo, conditioner and most other liquid things. Sometimes I feel positively mean. Not that it bothers me.
ReplyDeleteOh I would rather feel mean, and save lots of money. 😄 My dispensers are all just reused ones.
DeleteI recently decanted my dish detergent into a pump dispenser, myself, but, I think I still use too much of the detergent. Need to be more mindful of how much I use.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried watering it down slightly? That's something I do if it seems too 'sudsy'. 🙂
DeleteI have done that with shampoo and it’s incredible the difference it makes! I think I. Ary have got the tip from you! Catriona
ReplyDeleteI only use a little bit of shampoo since I started doing this, it makes a huge difference doesn't it. 😀
DeleteThank you for your last sentence! First laugh out loud of the day!
ReplyDeleteHaha ... and gosh do we all need a laugh at the moment.
DeleteI think this post is on a par with my toilet rolls posts!!
Rivetting indeed, Sue ! lol....I think we all needed the reminder though ;)
ReplyDeleteAngie
Haha ... it does us good to remind ourselves sometimes doesn't it.
DeleteI always find a squeeze is far more powerful than a slight push…..so decanting is the way to go
ReplyDeleteIt really is isn't it, and I thought I was being so careful.
DeleteI've just decanted a glass jar of mayo into a squeeze bottle.
ReplyDeleteI've been known to do that the other way round. 😄
DeleteI'm totally with you on this Sue. Every drip counts! And not using too much of something saves waste. Back in the day when I used a cafetiere I always measured out the amount of coffee I used, it kept the strength right but also didn't waste the coffee.
ReplyDeleteIt just makes complete financial sense doesn't it. 🙂
DeleteMy mother, who disliked waste, always told me that most people use way too much dish soap (and shampoo and laundry detergent and salad dressing a bunch of other things too). As a result I use just a smidge, and a bottle of dish soap usually lasts me for ages! (Then again, we run most of our dishes through a dishwasher. I only hand-wash the things the dishwasher would destroy, like wine glasses and wooden cutting boards.)
ReplyDeleteYes, your mother was completely right. Too many suds don't make the pots any cleaner, they just mean a bit more rinsing. We have never had a dishwasher so all our pots are washed by hand.
DeleteAh, it IS rivetting stuff because we all understand! I was rather annoyed the other day as I had made up a 750ml bottle of glass cleaner (one of the Ocean drops concentrated things you add to a bottle and make up with warm water). Somehow I didn't put the lid of properly apparently (I remain sceptical on this front!) and my husband managed to pick it up by the lid and spill half of it all over the floor. I don't know why these things happen to him and not me!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, that's on a par with Alan once picking up the newly refilled coffee cannister by the lid and only the lid staying in his hand. It took a long time until we stopped finding Nescafe granules under everything. I think my look scared him so much he has never done it again. ;-)
DeleteWe're all with you on this, Sue! Great minds think alike! xxx
ReplyDeleteWatching the pennies really saves the pounds doesn't it. 😀
DeleteI buy 5 litre refill bottles of Ecover when it is on offer, and pour it into a small bottle. I noticed that a large and a small bottle lasted DH about the same length of time, he uses less from the smaller bottle, but still has lots of useless bubbles, and won’t rinse them. A pump dispenser might work if I can get him to use just one pump action and not break it.
ReplyDeleteI have made another batch of Rhonda’s Laundry Liquid, from Down to Earth. The soap was easier to grate after a few seconds in the microwave.
That was a good experiment with the large and small bottles. I hate too many suds, the bowl I pictured on this post was too sudsy for me, and that was just from a final rinse out of the bottle and throwing the bottle top into the bowl. I got good use out of it though, two meals worth of pots and then an overnight soak for some cooking trays. 😀
DeleteI need to find more bottles that dispense rather than squirt.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I've acquired all mine by waiting for a good offer on a product that comes in a dispenser, or asking for a nice lotion in one for a birthday gift etc. And then using the bottles over and over. 🙂
