I used the last of the Lemon and Lime marmalade yesterday for my 'second breakfast'. I had forgotten that it was even there, lurking as it was behind the large jar of silverskin pickled onions in the fridge. I wondered when I had bought this as I really couldn't remember it appearing on any recent blog post, and I have been pretty on the ball with sharing my shopping for a long time now.
So I have just used the Search box and scrolled back, seemingly I opened the jar in August last year, (on this post) but there is no record of when it was bought.
Before I washed the jar out properly I added a bit of water from the kettle to it and gave it a swill, the liquid was then added to the curry that I made last night. I don't know what difference it actually made to the flavour, but it made me happy that absolutely nothing had gone to waste.
Then I washed the jar properly and the label soaked off like a dream.
With this fact, and with it being such a lovely jar it seemed a shame to put her into the recycling bin. I tried to be hard hearted and tell myself that I had more than enough empty jars of assorted sizes.
You've guessed it ... she now lives in the cupboard with her friends, awaiting some random contents of some sort, one day. 😁
Sue xx
Roses jars are lovely aren’t they- we don’t buy them ourselves but do occasionally get one given to us when someone else has finished the contents!
ReplyDeleteThey really are the prettiest of the 'jam jars'.
DeleteOne can't have too many useful jars! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. :-)
DeleteIt's a pretty jar though...
ReplyDeleteYep, she had to stay. :-)
DeleteKeep a close eye - jars do breed!
ReplyDeleteI've noticed, I bet there will be three of the Rose's jars by the time we come to move. ;-)
DeleteSue is right, they do multiply as they lurk in the darkness at the back if the shelf!
ReplyDeleteI sorted out my cupboards yesterday and there were far more "useful" jats than I shall ever need. SOME of them have gone to recycling.
I will have a sort out when we come to move house, it's the only time some of my saved jars go to recycling. It's a good job we move house so regularly or I would have hundreds by now. :-)
DeleteI am a real sucker for a pretty or unusual shaped jar as the shelves in my garage can testify. I don't make much jam or marmalade these days so not sure what I am keeping them for, I just can't put them in the recycling bin. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteThey are useful for so many things aren't they. :-)
DeleteThey are pretty jars, I think they have gone a bit smaller recently. DH likes the lime and it was on offer recently. I reuse them for homemade marmalade for our SIL.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be at all surprised if they are smaller, everything else is isn't it. :-(
DeleteThe jar is worth keeping for the pretty lid alone! I'm sure she will come in very handy for something ;)
ReplyDeleteAngie
The jar and the lid are both lovely aren't they. They make me smile. :-)
DeleteAWOL - been away in the van which is lovely at this time of year, sorry for missing previous posts.
ReplyDeleteRose's jars are in a class of their own and cannot possibly be put into the recycling bin!
I thought you had been missing in action for a while. Welcome back. :-)
DeleteThat jar’s a keeper for sure. Nice idea adding the marmalade to the curry for a bit of tangy taste. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI don't really know what difference it made to the flavour, but it made me happy. :-)
DeleteIt is the law to keep pretty jars.
ReplyDeleteIt really should be an 'actual law' shouldn't it. Waste not want not with everything that is produced. :-)
DeleteWell, it DOES look like a nice jar! I keep old jars for oil/fat disposal, but that one is too nice to use for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteI used to use old well used zip-lock bags for that, (obviously waiting until the fat has really cooled down), but it seems that these days I just don't have much fat to dispose of, so a paper napkin (rescued from my café travels) usually suffices to wipe a pan out. :-)
DeleteI love jars, too, and have lots of different sizes that I love to use and sometimes give away with goodies inside!
ReplyDeleteThat is a really good idea for them. :-)
DeleteIt is a very nice jar.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It is isn't it. :-)
DeleteSue, I just can't bring myself to throw away pretty jars either. I've been buying real maple syrup lately and the jar it comes in is just amazing. I have no idea what I will do with them, but they are staying in the cupboard until the day I figure it out.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly the way my brain works, I have some lovely sauce bottles that I will reuse one day. I just need to make the right thing to go in them ... which I WILL. :-)
DeleteJon's guilty of saving everything. I'm made of sterner stuff, I pass pretty jars on to my preserve making pals! xxx
ReplyDeleteRehoming them is a really good way of not feeling guilty about just recycling ... and getting them away from Jon. :-)
DeleteIt is pretty. Maybe use it as a mini vase for some little wild flowers for your dinner table or reading table 😀
ReplyDeleteThat's something that I always think I'll do with pretty jars, but somehow I've very rarely done it. I must make more of an effort. 😀
