My version of the booky Christmas tree on THIS post. 😄
I went to Sainsbury's for a few things that I needed for Alan, and noticed that my usual tissues were reduced to just £2.50 for a twin pack instead of the usual £4. It just had to be done, so I bought four double packs, and for some reason instead of £6 being deducted at the till £7 came off.
I'm happy, and safe from a tissue famine until well into next year. 😁
I'm doing my very best to do this from now on, not just for Christmas but beyond and all though next year. I've even cancelled Amazon Prime.
Sue xx

I had to laugh, Sue. It's comforting to know it's not just me that has a wardrobe full of tissues and loo rolls! The kids make fun of me but who did they turn to in times of covid and loo roll shortages? I felt so smug!
ReplyDeleteWe have Amazon prime, mostly for football for other half and a few series that we both like. I try very hard to buy locally if i can. Trouble is, Amazon give people what they want. Especially young, working families with no time to shop locally.
Hope all is less stressful with your visits to mum. Thinking of you. X
That's the downside to getting a good bulk purchase bargain isn't it, the storing of the stash. Paper goods especially take up a lot of space. :-)
DeleteI cancelled my entire Amazon account a couple years ago in protest at some shenanigans or other, I can’t even remember which one now. Hand on heart, I haven’t missed it.
ReplyDeleteAnna
There have been so many shenanigans over the years haven't there, I'm not surprised you can't remember which one you rebelled at. :-)
DeleteBut amazon kindle, though!... I've never had prime, we don't have any of the TV you have to pay for.
ReplyDeleteI think that once you have bought, or got free books, on Kindle and downloaded them they are yours to keep aren't they? I have all my books on my phone, but it would not be the end of the world if I lost them, as I rarely read on Kindle.
DeleteI cancelled Prime. It made buying things just too easy. Local trade where possible, even if it's just local branches of bigger chains, it still keeps local people in work.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think that is the way forward, local shops, markets and local branches ... not that we have any chain shops except for our three supermarkets, oh and The Factory Shop. But it's good seeing local people in work. xx
DeleteGood bargain on the tissues! I generally stock up on paper goods at this time of the year, buying enough for about 6 months, but, I need to see what I have in stock before I buy anymore.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good time to stock up on this sort of thing isn't it, while everyone else is buying Christmas crackers we are buying tissues and toilet rolls. :-)
DeleteI think the tissue mound needs a few twinkly lights to finish it off.
ReplyDeleteI have never had Prime nor buy much on Amazon, just the odd book sometimes when they send me a £5 off £ 20 spend and free postage. Our local village shops which at one time were bakers, greengrocers, hardware, knitting wool etc are turning into beauty and nail parlours, dog washing, take aways, turkish barbers and now a dreadful vape and American sweets and snacks shop complete with flashing neon lights. I would shop locally if there were any proper shops anymore to buy from.
Haha ... it's stashed in various locations around my bedroom now, if I do buy anymore I have no idea where it could go!!
DeleteYes, our High Street is very similar and our most recent shops to open were two vape shops, it's pretty obvious that there is a lot of money laundering opportunities on most high streets.
We've never had Prime. I've bought some recent Christmas stars from an independent business. Although they're beautiful, the wait for them was over a week with the delivery service they use. I can understand why people use Prime purely from a speed point of view. I've vowed next year to only buy things in person, wherever I'm able.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good vow to make for yourself. While I have ordered quite a few things using Prime, my main reason for getting it originally was for the films and series available to watch on TV. But I have Netflix (for now) and a brilliant stash of DVDs and lots of films recorded on my Freeview box so I doubt I will miss it much.
DeleteHope you don't need your tissues for a cold!!
ReplyDeleteThere's definitely a lot of sniffles going around at the moment aren't there, I have my fingers crossed they don't get called into use too often, just random daily use.
DeleteOur favourite tissues too and since we had the new boiler fitted, there is room in the cupboard for toilet roll and tissues. I bought an advent panel to make a calendar for my daughter and it took about two weeks to arrive but it was bought from a small business in Dundee and definitely worth the wait. Catriona
ReplyDeleteSupporting small businesses makes it worth the wait doesn't it. It's just remembering to order in time that might take some getting used to. :-)
DeleteGood prices there - something extra in your pocket - definitely nothing to sneeze at!
ReplyDeleteIf I have to sneeze, I am well prepared. :-)
DeleteWhere there are bargains, they must be purchased, I do agree. I hate getting down to the last of anything important and like to make sure there are plenty of supplies.
ReplyDeleteIt is comforting to keep a stock of something in, and know that you have always bought it at a good price isn't it. :-)
DeleteI buy local when I can, but I won't be going without Prime. It's just too handy. I hate shopping, and for things I need but can't find locally, it's just brilliant. Now our Morrisons has Amazon lockers in it and I can get stuff sent there, it's even better. I've been an Amazon customer since 1999 when I first bought a book there. I don't particularly like Bezos but I'm not prepared to make my life harder over it.
ReplyDeleteThere are various types of lockers appearing at all our supermarkets, and in other random places now aren't there, I guess it makes life handy for people that are not at home to get deliveries. We are getting to a stage where only a small number of very big companies have the monopoly on our spending and supply chain, and it is not a good thing.
DeleteTissues and loo roll are very essential items aren't they, I have a large stash of loo roll, must stock up on the tissues. Love your dupe tree 😀
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
It was when I was taking the plastic off the boxes and stacking them, that I realised I had inadvertently made a copy of the 'book tree'. :-)
DeleteLike you I try never to order anything online preferring to go into a shop and buy it, especially from the small retailers. If we don't support them we'll lose them! Although I have a Kindle I use it rarely and instead borrow books from the library (a mere £1 to order a book!) or buy books from charity shops.
ReplyDeleteIt is a much better way to do things isn't it. True, it's a bit more effort, but some things really are worth that effort.
DeleteGood for you Sue. I'm doing my best to resist most spending at the moment. Making and making do. It feels good.
ReplyDeleteI have really cut back on my spending this year, and alongside not buying I have been busy selling or donating things too. It really does feel good. :-)
DeleteI agree with the sentiment of buying from small businesses whenever possible and trying to keep the high street going. I've never had Prime and my Amazon account is purely for the odd 99p book on kindle. I much prefer a proper book anyway and have increased my reading of library books and the book exchange ones at the park which are free.
ReplyDeleteLove the tissue tree ;)
