I'm taking a break to write a blog post because Alan has me choosing all my 'bathroom fittings' from the Wickes and the B&Q catalogue, while he's away at the bungalow taking the garage roof ready for demolition. Wickes is not my favourite, so I have discounted all their offerings and stuck with B&Q for the few things that I want from there. Alan is going all new and modern, with black taps, shower head, radiator, towel rails etc etc.
That is not my way
Not a brilliant photo, the pedestal is not that skinny looking in real life, my camera angles must have been a bit wacky!!
I want to keep the sink and the toilet that are already in the bungalow and as long as the toilet works properly and we can get new 'innards' for it that is my starting point. Where Alan's en-suite is going to be all black, white and sleek, I am chrome and original white. The taps will be changed on the sink. but why would I want to get rid of such a brilliantly big sink.
My fittings will be chrome or stainless steel but the walls of my bathroom will be papered when I find something suitably 'happy making' to lavish on at least one of the walls. It will all come together eventually but Alan's way of planning it tires my brain, I had to disregard my little list and sit and write code numbers into his spread sheet ... his rows are many compared to mine.
I think he despairs of my way as much as I despair of his. We are a good match. 😄

It's hard work when each one of a couple thinks differently, and it causes headaches. I'm sure you'll decide on something that pleases you both.
ReplyDeleteIt's only the listing everything out for the order that I find hard, I would have just gone online and 'filled my basket', but Alan needs it in black and white on a spreadsheet before we place the order.
DeleteWe are similar in some ways but totally different in our way of doing things and our tastes for most things. Over the last twenty plus years we have learned to compliment each other just perfectly. We are each doing our own rooms and bathrooms, and making some slight compromises in the open plan living area. It will all work out just fine, as long as I can get my order lists written to his satisfaction. ;-)
The last bathroom we built from scratch, we installed a ‘comfort height’ loo. Even though we were both fit and healthy, the bathroom salesman insisted we had one and promised we’d appreciate the extra inch or so. I recommend them to everyone now! We don’t have one in our current house and we both miss it, especially now my knees are beginning to grumble….

That's a good point, I'll mention it to Alan especially as he is taller than me, he might find it an advantage. But I am sticking with the toilet that came with the bungalow, I don't want to get rid of it.
DeleteWe went for comfort height toilets and rimless ones too. I'm so glad we did as it makes a big difference for how easy they are to use and clean. We also have a walk in shower. No door fittings to faff with to clean, and no door to get trapped against if it opens inwards. Choices made through the joys of getting older and hours scrubbing inaccessible crannies with an old toothbrush.
ReplyDeleteAfter using a large shower cubicle with a pivot-style door opening for the last few years, I have decided on a sliding door this time, so no door getting in the way at all. I did consider a walk in shower but decided on this instead.
DeleteMy bil and sil had terrible trouble with a Wickes kitchen they ordered. They said never again! My OH tends to let me have my own way with how we decorate and furnish. The only thing he really hates is Venetian type blinds. Enjoy your cuppa, it makes everything right. Xx
ReplyDeleteWe used Wickes for Mum's bungalow renovation and it went like an absolute dream, so we have no beef with them about anything. I just prefer the B&Q options and the visibility of the prices, so you know what you are getting for your money upfront.
DeleteAlan likes ALL walls white or with feature brightly painted walls, just as he did his house. I don't mind white walls as I FILL them with pictures, but I do like wallpaper on at least one wall, just so it's calming and pretty. I love venetian blinds or voiles, Alan likes vertical blinds ... now there is a whole other conversation we will be having. ;-)
