Poached Eggs ... and Cat Food

After the last post I was asked how I got my poached eggs so perfectly round.  I totally cheat and I use these little silicone poaching cups and pop them in the microwave for just a smidge over one minute.

It means that in the time it takes for the toast to pop up I have two perfectly poached eggs.  Well perfectly poached for me, I do like the yolks quite firm.  I can't stand the wetness of poached eggs cooked straight in boiling water, although Alan quite likes them done that way.

Isn't this a lovely picture of Ginger.

It was taken by Tash, my sons girlfriend when they stayed at our house to look after our ginger beauty.  Ginger has always liked Jason and Tash and the way they fuss over him.  He's managing to put a little bit of weight back on since we changed his food.

He is now totally addicted to this cat food, and is actually asking to be fed at each meal time and clearing his dish every time.

His wish is our command, luckily it is on offer at the moment so we are getting very stocked up on it,  which is handy as some days he asks for lunch as well as his breakfast and tea.

He's not going to fit through his cat-flap soon at this rate. 😺

    1. There are so many ginger toms that look very alike aren't there, in fact we have what is almost Ginger's twin that visits the garden occasionally. Many an evening Alan has been stood at his door calling for 'Ginger' to come in and being ignored, only to go back into the living room and finding our Ginger fast asleep on the sofa!

  2. That is a lovely picture of your dear old boy. It reminds me how our old puss Bo looked last year at the age of 20. She went very thin but then we found a tuna based posh cat food and she went mad for it and put on some weight. Sadly she died last November and we miss her terribly but she had a wonderful life gave us hours of joy and she was never ill just at the vet for routine checks and jabs. A dear old 🐱. Regards Sue H

    1. This photo was taken about a week after his switch to posh mousse like food, now another couple of weeks later he's starting to really look a bit chubbier … but in a healthy way. :-)

Aww, Bo lived to a very good age didn't she, but that obviously means that she leaves a much bigger hole in your hearts. :-(

  3. Ginger still has the face of an inquisitive kitten even if he is now an older cat. My SIL can poach eggs in rolling water no bother but the rest of us cheat and put in metal rings! Catriona

    1. I guess some people just have the knack with 'loose eggs' when poaching, I certainly don't. :-)

  4. From experience, I know that stocking up on the food that is the only one a cat will eat is a sure-fire way of curing that particular addiction - for ever! Hope Ginger doesn't follow that trend. . . .

    1. He has such an expressive face doesn't he. We can sometimes almost literally hear what he's thinking. :-)

  6. Our cats both liked this food when they were older. They weren't eating so much then so we were happy to oblige!

    1. We don't mind treating any of our animals to their favourite foods, Alan puts on a veritable buffet for Ginger most meal times.

  9. Ginger looks like my granddaughter Iris's cat called Parkin. My Miss Sheva also likes Purina cat food, Oceanfeast fish only. She's also very partial to Cheese Dreamies too. Xx

  10. Didn't know those poach pod things would work in the microwave - I have a couple but float it on boiling water - I shall try microwave and hope the yolk doesn't explode!

  11. I've always wanted a ginger cat. No hope at the moment as we have two dogs who chase cats. Mind you they have met their match in the cat next door. He is one mean feline, to dogs anyway. He is far more successful than I am at making them change their attitude. I'm paying him in sardines wink, wink.

    God bless.

  13. Ginger looks very dignified in that picture! Thank you for posting a picture of his new favorite food. I, too, have an older cat who is being very finicky about his food and loosing weight. I might try this brand of food and see if he likes it.
