It seems that everyone is suddenly talking about Christmas, but I am going one step further and mentioning that this week I pre-ordered my 2026 Lucy Almey Bird wall calendar.
I just could not run the risk of them selling out, and I have loved having this years version hung up next to my chair and matching in with the prints that I have on my wall.
Buying direct from her website made the calendar a lot cheaper than some of the others that I was looking at in the garden centre last week too, so I was doubly pleased. It did also tempt me into looking at all her lovely greetings cards, there are a lot and they are beautiful. But I resisted ... for now!!
No Christmas talk from me for a while though, although I do understand why some people have started mentioning it and of course the shops have also started stocking it.
Sue xx
Lovely details in the painting by Lucy Almey Bird. I ordered some cards and the jigsaw puzzle of the bookshop for DD a few weeks ago. It was sold out early last year. I do like the railway carriage painting, DH and I had our picnic and flask of tea on the Severn Valley Railway last Saturday.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's all the detail that I love so much in her work. When my boys were small and I read to them each night at bedtime, I would look at all the detail in the pictures in their books, in fact I think I purposefully bought them books with illustrations that I loved.
DeleteThey are glorious pictures.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was responsible for choosing the Christmas school music productions, Christmas started in August for me, researching and planning. Now it can start as early or as late as I like.
Oh gosh, Christmas prep in August!! I understand why, but it must have made it seem like Christmas was never-ending.
DeleteThank you for the reminder to get a new calendar! I usually try to get a calendar that has a big space in which to write my appointments, etc.
ReplyDeleteYes, I need that. Luckily these calendars have a nice big box for each day. Handy for all our visits and appointments.
DeleteThanks for the link to the website. The artist has done some beautiful pictures and I was VERY tempted. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI went over myself and might have accidentally bought myself five greetings cards ... which will never be sent to anyone!! ;-)
DeleteI am thinking Christmas but trying not to talk it. DH hates starting early - I have mixed feelings - I don't really want to think about it this soon, it goes against the grain and somehow spoils the enjoyment of the moment we are in. On the other hand if I don't start earl life overtakes us and by Christmas Eve I am regretting not starting sooner. Enjoy your calendar.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have 'talked' about it on here I have not uttered a single word to anyone. :-)
DeleteEasing into the Christmas season is probably the sensible thing to do. I don't think September is too early.
ReplyDeleteGo for it if it suits you, and if it makes for an easier life then it is a good idea. We don't buy any presents, I just send cash for the grandchildren under 18 and to the great-grandchildren, and we send fewer and fewer cards each year, as the people we used to send cards to have nearly all died. So I am lucky in that there is little to no planning needed for us.
DeleteThanks for the heads up Sue just been on the web site and ordered myself one. Heather
ReplyDeleteThey were only released last week, so I have been waiting for them to appear. I'm glad you got one. xx
DeleteWe have been known to mat and frame calendar pictures. Sure is an economical way to decorate.
ReplyDeleteIt's a much cheaper way to get nice pictures to frame. These calendar pages are the same size as the prints I got for my birthday, at a much smaller cost. I don't have enough wall space to frame them all unfortunately, but I may pick a favourite from this years calendar when it comes down. :-)
DeleteWell of course it is nearly Christmas - Strictly started last night and I was horrified - I actually knew who at least 3 of the contestants were ! 🤣
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you, Mrs-Evil-Temptress . . . there might well be a calendar in my shopping basket before the end of the day.
I don't watch Strictly I never have, and this year I don't even need to learn anything about the contestants as Mum won't be watching it either. I used to try and know what was going on as she loved to talk about it.
DeleteSorry to have cost you money ... no I'm not really, the calendar is worth every penny!! ;-)
Gorgeous illustration, to my shame I have to admit my eyes took less than 2 seconds to alight on the Large Box of Thorntons Chocolates!
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Funny, me too.
Delete😄👍

Haha ... so did mine!! Gosh I miss being able to eat Thorntons chocolates. :-(
DeleteNo chance I will be purchasing this calendar. Can't imagine what sort of tariff will beplaced upon it.
ReplyDeleteShipping adds hugely to any purchase made from overseas, especially now, doesn't it. :-(
DeleteLAB is new to me. What a delight. Now I have a cottage, better very late than never, I want it to be exactly as she depicts. I'm considering getting her cards and using them as Christmas cards to represent our new life to family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit to buying one of the Christmassy cards, just so that I can display it next to my tree, a Christmas card to myself that will appear every year. :-)
DeleteYour new life sounds amazing. xx
What a gorgeous calendar.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It really is a good quality one too. xx
DeleteSue you are such a temptress. i've ordered two calendars and a tote bag. fab stuff.
ReplyDeleteOops, sorry. But you will love them. :-)
