I don't do much furniture shifting these days. All my things have found their place, just the way I have found mine ... so we all stay where we are.
I do, however, have a little bit of a colour swap around with the seasons, and it's mostly with books. The cool whites and blues on the spines of the books that used to be beneath the plant on the sideboard have been swapped for browns, oranges and greens.
Alan walked in and noticed straight away ... 'ooh orange' he said, orange does happen to be his favourite colour, well alongside purple. Luckily I don't have any purple books!!
After a bit of titivation with books being replaced into the bookcases and new ones being picked out I ran out of steam and enthusiasm, so the radiator shelf stayed a mess for the evening.
By the next day though it had been reorganised, and the eagle-eyed among you will notice that Valerie, the teddy bear has been relocated off the bookcase near the door onto the books on the radiator shelf. She's an old lady, she will be much warmer for Winter on there.
Some things stay where they are no matter what, the two wooden boxes on the righthand side for instance, as that is where they are useful. The large box on the bottom contains candles and nightlights alongside matches to light them in an emergency. The smaller box on top is my small change money box, and is proving useful for buying bits and bobs from the shops during this lean year with no wages.
When evening comes around and dusk starts to fall the salt lamp comes on and casts it's amber hue around the living room, it makes it feel a bit cosier on these cooling evenings.

I like your Autumn vibes. We are still in summer over here.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a really abrupt switch to Autumn in our region this year. Literally on 1st September it went so much cooler and the rain started. I'm even toying with the idea of getting my Winter weight quilt on the bed ... I have already switched to my cosier slippers for in the house.
DeleteI love a little reorganisation now and again. The illustration is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
Lucy puts so much detail into her paintings doesn't she. I love them.
DeleteHello Sue! Just having a catch-up! I'm so pleaed that you had a brilliant holiday, your photos are gorgeous! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Vix, I'll be over to yours later to see how EOTW went. 😀
DeleteYou are so right about the sudden temperature drop. When the sun is out occasionally you can still feel the warmth but there has definitely been a change. Theres a chill in the air rather than a gentle breeze. The eagle eye in me spotted the money secret book on your shelf lol. I love your little wooden boxes too. I don't know how you stretch your money so far. I've always been fascinated with your money challenges and how far you get, very inspiring. Your living room is so beautiful tidy & organised I bet it's really cozy sitting and reading there with your lamp 🌌🕯️📚 I enjoy your decluttering & organising updates too. I've never really thought about swapping things around for the seasons but actually it sounds quite nice to do that 😊
ReplyDeleteYep, the book is there, that's one of to 'to be read' piles. 😄 Money stretching seems to be my superpower. 😎
DeleteWhile I like most things to stay the same, a few little changes are very satisfying on the eye. It stops life being too samey.
Love autumnal colours and I think it’s fast approaching. Catriona
ReplyDeleteIt really does. I always change seasons in my mind on the first of the month, why wait for the 'official' date when nature has spoken loud and clear. 🍁🍂
DeleteThank you for the reminder of the artist, I’ve just ordered that image as a card and 4 others - there’s goes the no spend month - I’ll look for frames from the charity shops - just love her style ❤️ Helen
ReplyDeleteHer work is beautiful isn't it. I'm hoping to get another calendar for next year. ❤️
DeleteIt does seem suddenly chillier in the mornings and after sunset. It's a gentle slide into autumn, though,
ReplyDeleteI love the painting - how cosy is that?
It's definitely much chillier in the evenings now, we are just on the cusp of single figure temperatures overnight now, so it's time for the Winter duvet this week I think. Lucy's paintings are very evocative of the seasons aren't they. :-)
DeleteI have sideboard envy Sue! Maeve xx
ReplyDeleteShe's my pride and joy, and so useful.

Thank you xx

DeleteI love the idea of a small change money box.
ReplyDeleteI have a pot I keep high up on the bookshelf and I drop the odd 20p in there or even smaller amounts.
It soon builds up.
I've had it for years now, I think I picked it up from a car boot sale originally. The change really does build up quickly doesn't it.
DeleteWhat a lovely idea to change around for the seasons, and I Cards by Lucy Amley Bird.
ReplyDeleteIt's something I've done for years now, it makes me happy ... and reminds me what books I have, which also makes me happy. 😃
DeleteOoooh that lovely Safe and Sound illustration could have been me this morning. We have been away and Morgana has missed me.
ReplyDeleteAww, it's sad but also heart-warming when they miss us isn't it. :-)
