Katsu 'No-Chicken' Fillets

I don't know how long these had been in the freezer.

I scrolled and scrolled back over shopping photos on here and didn't manage to find them before I started getting side-tracked looking at other things ... dangerous time wasting strategy!!  😄

Anyway it must have been a long time, to be honest I didn't hold out much hope for them being super tasty as I have been slowly going off most of the Aldi range of Plant Menu offerings.

So, it was time to give them a go then.

For a start each fillet was a lot bigger than I expected, and the sauce happily came in two sachets so I didn't have to eat them both at once.  One fillet with it's sauce, and a portion of rice and peas made for a very satisfying meal.  There's not that much flavour to the fillet, but the crispiness of it and the lovely flavourful sauce work very well together.

I am very impressed, and I will be buying these again.  As long as they don't  disappear the way the Plant Menu sausage rolls seem to have!!

  1. I think it us good when double portions come with the sauce in 2 sachets. Not everyone wants to cook both at once

  2. Sounds like it was a good buy. Having the sauce in two separate packets is helpful for when all one wants is one of the fillets.

    1. It was a nice surprise, and definitely better than having to use all the sauce at once and then find something suitable from my own cupboard for the second fillet.

  3. I always appreciate your reviews of things like this, thank you.
And what a pleasant change that the sauce also came in two portions.

    1. I think this is the first time this has happened, usually I'm having the next 'whatever' with a big dollop of mayo ... it's never quite the same that way is it. :-)

  4. Glad you enjoyed your saucy dish. Well done to Aldi for making it two completely separate portions. Catriona

  5. That looks very tasty. I must look out for them if I manage to get to Aldi, as the store is a bit out of the way for us now.

    1. I'm finding Aldi is a bit hit and miss for the Plant Menu things just recently. I used to struggle to get the garlic Kyivs, now it's the sausage rolls that have vanished. :-(
