The sun was shining, it was just slightly cooler than the last couple of days in the gentle breeze, and we had nothing lined up on either of our calendars, so there was nothing for it but to head to the coast.
Morecambe here we come. 😃
We decided to forego our usual coffee and breakfast café of choice and instead head for the end of the Stone Jetty. I thought I would take a few photos as we headed towards the end of this lovely pier like structure.
The various seaside, but mostly bird themed sculptures are actually all over town, on the promenade, embedded into the promenade, in the centre of nearly all the many roundabouts, and the Stone Jetty has quite a few of it's own.
After a sausage butty for me, and a sausage and bacon butty for Alan and of course, the obligatory coffees that have to accompany such a breakfast, we had a slow meander back along to the promenade, which somehow always leads me to the animal rescue charity shop.
They must have had a huge donation of books as the shelves were bulging, a delight to my eyes as soon as I walked in. I found myself four very random and different books, which all appealed in their own unique way.
This was the first one to catch my eye.
A tiny little book which is a replica of an even tinier littler book from Queen Mary's Dolls' House, something that I have always wanted to see for myself. Why we didn't go and see it when we lived in Berkshire I have no idea, what a wasted opportunity.
Here's some information about the book.
And what the pages look like inside.
Now imagine the pages small enough to fill the book that this hand is holding. 😃
Dolls' house perfection, and a very happy find for 50p.
Then it was back to the car with my treasures.
We were greeted with this chap staring into the car and obviously waiting for something.
When we pulled out of our car parking space we understood the reason for his impatience ... there was a squashed biscuit under our car!! He got stuck in and was no doubt very relieved that he had been patient enough to see the pesky humans off.
Sue xx
A fun day and I'm glad he finally got his biscuit!
ReplyDeleteWe both had a good laugh when we realised what the poor guy was waiting for. 😀
DeleteLet me know if the Drew Pritchard one is worth reading. I could order it through the Library then. Keith and I used to watch all his programmes - though I hate, loathe and detest his "grunge antiques" - talking up stuff which is covered in rust or chairs stripped to the bones upholstery-wise. Favourites were the foreign fairs they went too - oh gosh, I could have SUCH fun at one of those! Sounds like a great day out anyway, and a shame you didn't visit Windsor Castle to see that wonderful dollshouse - I remember it still.
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know. Strangely I don't really like the man himself. His huge premises were just up the road from us in Glan Conwy, and then the shop he opened was in Conwy. It was full of overpriced tat, he just really traded on his 'fame'.
DeleteHe had a lot of people fall out with him when he cheated on his wife.
He posed so well for his photo!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit like mug shots isn't it, look to the left, look to right, now look straight ahead. 😄
DeleteSue, your posts are a delight to me always. Thank you for sharing. I so enjoy seeing the differences and similarities between our countries.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fascinating isn't it, which country are you in? 🙂
DeleteI live in southern Maine in the US. We are just starting spring and garden season.
DeleteSo we should have reasonably similar weather for the time of year. But these days the weather can be as unexpected as the politics can't it. 😄
DeleteMorecambe looks beautiful in your photos. We went in November and it was cold, pouring with rain and blowing a hooley. The only thing we did was to take a picture of Eric!! I've promised myself I will go back one day! Fiona x
ReplyDeleteOh I can well imagine. It doesn't look good in the cold, wet, harsh light of Winter. But even then Eric can raise a smile. 😀
DeleteMorecombe looks lovely in the sunshine, that bird sculpture is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteFriends of ours sell a lot to Drew and say he's absolutely lovely in real life. Rebecca bought a purse from me when I traded at a market in Chester and she was an absolute sweetheart.
As a dolls house nut I'd have snapped up the Queen Mary book, too! xxx
The sculpture is great isn't it. Oh Drew is friendly and a real gent. Yes his first wife, Rebecca is well loved in Conwy and they worked really well together. He just did the dirty on her, and not very privately.
DeleteSounds like a lovely day out. That gull waiting for the biscuit is too funny!
ReplyDeleteHe had us puzzled for sure, He swooped down the minute we started reversing so no other bird could nab his prize. 😄
DeleteA friend and I vacationed on the Isle of Arran in Scotland years and years back. Our greatest joy was taking long walks and sitting on any bench we passed for a while, letting the world go by. Invariably, there was a gull nearby that stared at us. We dutifully stared back. It was great fun, and we called this our new passion. "Women who stare at gulls (and gulls staring back)" is still a favourite pastime of mine when visiting the sea shore.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a brilliant Summer hobby. 😀
DeletePoor Simon Griffin...such a limited vocabulary. Could he really not think of a decent title?
ReplyDeleteIt's a brilliantly funny book, no other title would have fitted it ... or warned readers what to expect. 😄
