The River Wyre
I had to go into town yesterday to pick up my new reading glasses, after about five years my prescription had changed enough to warrant a couple of new pairs. It meant that I had to pay for an hour on the car park even though I would only be ten minutes, so I made good use of the ticket and sat by the river for a few minutes.
Sometimes you have to take five minutes in the fresh air for your sanities sake.
I had been woken at 4.30am with my phone ringing on my bedside table. Mum had taken a turn for the worse and the care home were calling for an ambulance so they rang to tell me. Then an hour later I was woken again by the ambulance crew telling me that a visit to hospital was deemed necessary. I don't cope well with being woken from a deep sleep and having to make serious decisions, so the rest of the day saw me in a pretty much zombie-like state. Thank goodness I was only picking my glasses up and not having to choose any.
Another thing to hit Facebook Marketplace, to boost my food shopping budget this week was this little cupboard.
I bought it off FB Marketplace in 2021, and posted about it HERE. It was just before we completed the move into our current home, and while I have loved having it, it just won't go anywhere in our new bungalow, it was a bit of a clutter-gatherer anyway but it was lovely.
I decluttered it a lot for the FB Marketplace photos and have managed to sell it for £20, just a bit less than I paid five years ago. It's going to be someone's bathroom cabinet in a little old cottage, above an old fashioned sink set into a little sideboard.
I'm happy it's going to a good home.

Love this little piece of furniture - glad it is going to a good home. Mx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your mother, glad you found some time to sit in such a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteMoving and deciding about furniture is tough; we have a rather large coffee table of my parents that they bought when they were first married and I've known and lived it all my life... it's in store at the moment because we can't fit it in! I shall have to let it go...
We had similar dilemna, but a great DIYer friend of ours swapped out the wooden legs for a metal framework, then I used some old small tiles to mosaic the top and grouted and sealed it. We now have a lovely garden table, mostly all weather. We just cover it in the winter. Family history still there
DeleteSorry to read about your Mum, hope things have stabilised since the phone calls. xx
ReplyDeleteSorry about Mum, always harder when the one you love is miles away, not just around the corner.
ReplyDeleteGood that the cupboard has found a new home, and you have more cash in the kitty.
I hope things look brighter through the new specs 👓 😊💜
Hopefully your Mum is more settled now and responding to treatment. That’s a lovely view you had of the meandering river with the trees greening up
ReplyDeleteNice that the little cupboard has a new home and that you have the cash.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the stress.

Sorry to hear your Mum has had to go to hospital and I can remember well the times it happened to us-I’m not worth a button if the phone wakes me in the night. Hope your new specs are fine. Good that you sold the cabinet and hopefully the buyer won’t feel the need to paint it. Catriona
ReplyDeleteOnce I am awake, I may as well get out of bed. I definitely feel it the next day. I wish I could put my phone on silent every night, but that isn't the case most nights. Hope your Mom is in a safe place getting the care she needs! (:
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your Mum and hoping all's well.
ReplyDeleteI remember that lovely little cupboard, it's given you a few years of joy and it's brilliant that you've recouped most of the money you paid for it.
Hope you're getting on with the new specs! xxx
Sorry about your mum. Waking up like that isn't easy to just move on with your day.
ReplyDeleteYou have my sympathies. I can't be woken from a deep sleep these days without feeling absolutely wrecked the following day. I always wake before the alarm, if I'm woken by it, or any other sudden disturbance I just don't cope well with it any more. I'm not sure when that started; another bonus of getting older.
ReplyDeleteWe had a little cupboard very similar to that. Never did find a place for it and gave it to friends who were going to use it but didn't. Hopefully it ended up being used and appreciated somewhere. I'm starting to think seriously about our next move. A long period of re-homing stuff is needed.
Hopefully your mum is a comfortable as she can be.
So sorry to read about your mother. I am always worried when the phone rings late at night.
ReplyDeleteLove the little cupboard and I am glad it is going to a home when it will be loved.
God bless.
Oh dear, lots of stress and broken sleep, no wonder you needed 5 minutes. At least you know how to care for yourself if things continue to be challenging. I will be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteI hope your mum is OK and you too. I always feel washed out the next day when this kind of thing happens. This kind of news is bad enough during the day, but worse at night. Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteI hope your Mum is doing better, now. It's good that you took a few minutes to sit by the river and relax. That's a lovely little cupboard; I'm glad you were able to sell it as you have no space for it in your new home.
ReplyDeleteFive minutes of peace in a tranquil setting can be so good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteSorry about your mom. That must have been alarming, especially coming early in the morning. Good job selling the cabinet!
