I was sorting through my stationery drawers the other day, and NO in great big letters I do not need any more notebooks of any description until I reach at least 100 years of age. Nor do I need any pens or pencils if all the ones in the drawer are in good working order.
Anyway one notebook really caught my attention, it was full of loose bits of paper alongside many, many filled pages. It turned out to be the one I kept while I was doing a number of my Challenges on my other blog.
Eat for £25 a week, eat for one pound a day, two pounds a day etc etc. But the most interesting challenge was the Eat for £3.50 a Week Challenge, that I actually only did back in April of 2023. I ended up dropping everything else that I was doing and reading through all of my notes.
Sorry that the photos are so blurry, but I'm sure that you get the gist of it.
It really got me wondering if that would be possible right now. I honestly think not, but I think I will go onto the Sainsbury's website and see how the prices compare with this months prices.
Now while the paper exercise of the challenge looked very promising, with lots of food being able to be bought for the budget, the actual Challenge itself panned out more like this.
The Eat for £3.50 a Week Challenge

I'll be interested to read about your findings on that one.
ReplyDeleteI do love a notebook and a pen/pencil, if Father Christmas got me some socks, stationary and chocolate I'd be very content 😌

I would be very happy with socks, stationery and chocolate too. :-)
DeleteI made my way to your blog from My Quiet Life in Suffolk. I too have an orange and white male cat named Ginger; he's four years old and a big, 16 pounds, sweet natured boy. Jenny in Tennessee
ReplyDeleteThis is my second ginger (orange) cat called Ginger. His name is just a happy coincidence, my first was a great big girl cat that the boys named when they were small, and this Ginger was originally a foster cat that we ended up keeping. He's an absolute darling of a boy and is now fifteen years old.
DeleteI remember the struggle my sister had on a fixed income and the things she did to stretch the pennies. She was a very good manager.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have had to stretch money to breaking point in the past when my boys were small. If I had known then what I know now, it would have been so much easier.
DeleteI doubt you could too, given how much basics have gone up since then. Is this a new challenge? If anyone could, it is you. :-) xx
ReplyDeleteNo, sadly I am not in a position to be able to do any challenges at the moment. Maybe in the future when things have settled down.
DeleteI love stationery and have a hoard in a box on a high shelf in my crafting stash. I also have a stash of freebie notebooks that I have accumulated over the last few years which I use for lists and notes to self. Catriona
ReplyDeleteI have decided that I am now going to make a concentrated effort to use my little stash of pretty notebooks and stop using scraps of paper for everything from recipes to shopping lists.
DeleteEverything has rocketed in price recently - again - so I can't imagine how little could be spent now.
ReplyDeleteThings are really creeping up again at the moment aren't they. :-(
DeleteIsn’t it shocking how much the supermarket economy range food prices have gone up in two and a half years. For those with the least money for food, there are no cheaper options, and many of the budget items have been reduced in quality and size or have withdrawn.
ReplyDeleteExactly this Nelliegrace. I have just done an online comparison shop and this really stands out. These are the cheapest lines available in the shop, some of the other higher priced things are at similar prices to what they were two years ago ... but sadly still out of reach to those on a very restricted budget. :-(
DeleteIt would be interesting to see what the new prices are on the items you bought back then. I know that our grocery prices have risen so much that people are struggling to pay for groceries, especially since a certain segment of the workforce is not getting paid and others are having their food aid withheld.
ReplyDeleteIt's a terrible situation isn't it. I have just done a comparison online shop to see the rises on these prices, it's on the next post.
DeleteWhen my MiL was moving, I helped her clear and sort her conservatory, garage and bookshelf out and found 70 notebooks, 40 of which were unused. About 100 cards, posties, pens and so much!!! She stills keeps trying to buy them and I remind her!
ReplyDeleteWow, you've inspired me to really use up my notebooks. While I have nowhere near that number, I do have around 15 just sat there. When we were clearing out Mum's bungalow I patiently went through her pen drawer checking which ones were still working, sadly most of them weren't ... but it kept me out of mischief for a while!! :-)
