Dark Evenings ... and Only Slighter Lighter Mornings

Ginger has been a little bit baffled by the time change over the past week.

While the mornings have been slightly lighter, it only seemed to last a day or so because of all the rain clouds that we have had.  Ginger comes over every morning for his 'squidgy', a tube of paste-like cat treat that he seems addicted to.  I like him having it even though I think it is basically pussycat junk food, because it seems to trigger his appetite, which until recently had been waning.  After emptying the dish and then having a little cat milk, he goes out the front door of mine, through next doors garden and reappears in our back garden where he makes straight for his cat flap which is on Alan's back door to see if Alan has surfaced yet.

If he hasn't Ginger comes straight back to mine and waits in anticipation of Alan's curtains opening, and the promise of breakfast.

While all this is going on I am simply drinking coffee and watching some YouTube, I have no inclination to be climbing garden fences before breakfast.  😄

Gosh, it even seemed gloomy in the fridge this morning.  Maybe I should stop putting things so neatly in front of the lights!!

I have to say, I am loving the long dark evenings ... I always do.  There's something very relaxing about settling down nice and early, with good food, a good book and then some really good television.

Just recently I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed all of Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, The Veil and then I completely binge watched Riot Women.  Gosh Sally Wainwright can write a good series.

Now, I just have to find something of equal calibre to follow that!

  1. I’m watching Riot Women too but only one episode at a time! Also re-reading a book for my Readers’ Group next Wednesday and sewing some bits and bobs for a friend’s church group sale. Quite a frost this morning here so I’ll do some indoor tasks first. Catriona

    1. I couldn't stop at one episode, so I watched it over two evenings. Excellent series.

  2. We watched nine bodies in a mexican morgue. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Poetic justice in the ending. I do like a "proper" ending!
Just started the third series of Trigger point. Excellent, as were the first two series.
I love the long winter nights. We have a north facing room with Arabian red walls and a log burner. Very cosy. We just hope my Dad doesn't press his help button for assistance! No fun getting dressed again when one is lounging in ones pyjamas! X

    1. Yes, I loved the ending. I hate it when things are left open, usually for a second series, but thankfully there was no way they could do that with this series. :-)

I have only ever seen snippets of Trigger Point on Gogglebox, it does look good.

  3. We watched the nine bodies series too, a bit different which is always good.
I thought your fridge was sooooo neat, I wish I was so tidy 😀
I've decided we must have a few tealights burning in the evening now in addition to my string of star fairy lights, helps with the cosy feel.

    1. My fridge is always neat as I like to see everything I have the minute I open the door. Sadly I do have to pull the drawers out to see the cheese, fruit and veggies ... oh the hardship. ;-)

  4. I too love the darker evenings, curtains drawn, cosy warm and a good TV program to watch. We've been watching different dramas on channel 5 catch up, there are some really good ones.

  5. Ginger is a lucky kitty! We have an aging dog, and I too worry when she doesn't seem to have an appetite for a meal. Then I'm adding enticing bits of stuff to her bowl to kick-start the eating.

  6. Gosh, I seem to be the odd one out as I hate the dark evenings. Come December, when dusk is mid-afternoon I can't wait for the winter solstice . . . I am trying to keep myself busy of an evening but am struggling with Feeling Positive.

    1. It can be hard if you are feeling down and alone on the darker evenings, I do get like that occasionally.

  7. I'll soon be staying in bed in the mornings until it's light at 8 - saving electric!!

    1. That sounds cosy, the 'dark until 8am' mornings will be with us before we know it. I've noticed it changing each morning since we moved the clocks back.

    1. I nipped over to Sue's blog to have a look, it does a bit doesn't it. But he's just a little pussycat, not a big one. :-)

  9. Wasn't Riot Women superb? I've not got a musical bone in my body but it didn't stop me from trying to convince the girls at my school reunion a couple of weeks ago of getting a band together!
Cats and their bizarre eating habits - who knows what goes on in their heads?
I do love being in the pool at 7am and watching the sunrise whilst I'm doing my mile swims! xxx

    1. It was the best thing on tv for ages. You could always play the tambourine!!

Every time we really stock up on his food, I expect him to decide that it's time for a change of diet. One day he will. :-)

  10. I'm not a fan of dark evenings, but I do quite like to close the curtains and get cosy. It's nice having an excuse to stay indoors when it's cold.
Riot Women is a great watch, isn't it. They were filming when we were in Hebden Bridge, last year. X

    1. It's weird Hebden Bridge has cropped up in things that I've been reading and watching a LOT over the past few weeks. Maybe it's fate telling me that we should be house-hunting there!! Mind you it is VERY hilly isn't it ... so perhaps not. Although I do love it there, especially the brilliant market and shops.

  11. Ginger seems to have a definite routine to his mornings. I've been giving Dancer the Fancy Feast cat food that you said you gave Ginger and he seems to really like it. He's eating it, but, he is still losing weight. :(
We haven't reset our clocks yet, over here; it will take place the first weekend in November. I am not a big fan of shorter daylight hours and longer evenings. I need to try and change that. :)

    1. It's the only really regular thing that he does, so I am really encouraging it and sticking to the routine, as at other times he seems to be suffering from pussycat dementia. Having his Whiskas cat-milk every day is helping him to maintain his weight as it is quite calorific. Would Dancer drink it?

  12. I love that Ginger has a routine and comes back if breakfast isn't ready at Alan's he comes back to spend some time with you. Our clocks (well everyone else here in Canada except this province) change this weekend. I love pulling the drapes as darkness falls and curling up in my chair with some project and an enjoyable show on the television. I wish we could get some of the shows that you get.

    God bless.

    1. Since we lost both the dogs he cannot stand being on his own, so is always coming to one or the other of us. He seems to need to know where we are at all times. If we go out it's usually in the mornings when he has his long sleep.

  13. I too love the longer dark evenings, so much more relaxing than the lighter nights we get in the Summer. Enjoy x
