Gorgeous ... and Almost Free

My new plants.

Last year I bought one of these 'Sunfinity' plants from Booths and it lasted me all the way through the Summer, flowering prolifically as long as I deadheaded it regularly.  So when I saw them outside on the plant racks when we called there for a coffee and a bacon bun on Saturday, it was a real no-brainer to pick myself another one up.

It's friend the gorgeously coloured Dahlia joined it in the shopping trolley and now they live happily together at the end of my garden path.

I still had the final £20 voucher off shopping at Booths in my bag so it made sense to use it for the plants as I had no need of any food shopping this week.  The two plants together came to £17.50 and as I had gone 'ooh' as I passed by some stationery on the way in Alan said why don't you treat yourself to the notebooks to make the total just over the £20 mark.

I did not need persuading very hard!!

Two new plants, three new notebooks and all for 45p ... it's been a good weekend.  💖

  1. aah, the dreaded notebooks. I have a terrible problem with paper, pens, notebooks. Disposable fountain pens in all sorts of colours of ink.

    1. I was going to be good and wasn't going to get them after my initial noticing of them, but they were the last pack and Alan did say 'go on' ... so my hand was forced. ;-)

  4. I also bagged a bargain today. Like lots of supermarkets, my local Tesco had several plants outside all wilting in dry as a bone compost, yet mostly all £5 each. In pure sympathy I picked up a large foxglove with no label on it and took it inside to ask how much it was, bearing in mind it was in a very sorry state. To my surprise they said "have it & good luck with it"! It's been watered and is sat waiting in the greenhouse to be planted tomorrow- it's perked up no end. It's so sad that the plants get forgotten.

    1. Oh I feel so sad when the plants are just left to dry out and then get thrown away.

I once took photos in Wyevale and sent them to head office, of plants priced at £19.99 each all absolutely bone dry and wilting. They thanked me for my concern and pointing this out and sent me a voucher for £20 to spend with them ... I would rather they had watered the plants!!

  5. It does upset me when no-one looks after the supermarket trays of plants.
    Yours look beautiful.
Apparently our local The Range has a good selection and my gardener friend is going to buy some for me... I'm looking forward to them

    1. It really upsets me, especially when they are all so dry they start to fall over and blow around. What a waste of money apart from anything else. I hope your new plants are in good condition when they arrive.

  8. Beautiful notebooks. I wonder what you will use them for. I'm not being nosey I just like to wonder. I've come across various pinterest pages and you tube videos etc of people using notebooks in different ways. I find it interesting. I love a nice notebook. Also I know someone who bought a very dried up sorry looking tiny plant shoot for about 45p some years ago and she's not very green fingered. However she watered it, planted it etc. Turned out to be an Acer and it is so well established it's is now worth over £1k! So you never know 😉

    1. I don't know what they will be used for yet, writing in any new notebook for the first time needs care consideration doesn't it. ;-)

It must be a very big, or maybe a very special tree to have that sort of value. The Acers in our garden centre, even the ten year old ones are only a couple of hundred. We looking at a five year old one the other week and it was £79.99. (Our apple tree very sadly has canker, and will need replacing at the end of this season.)

  9. I'm the same with notebooks. I actually start in the back of the notebook. I feel better that way lol.

Yeah it is a big beautiful Acer. It was a garden centre owner who confirmed it's worth. Nice surprise lol.

  10. Ps sorry ya apple tree has to go 😞 Hope you can replace it with one that fruits soon for you. We have an apple tree. This year will be the first time for fruit. If we get to them before the birds do lol. We've done alright this year with peas strawberries cherries cucumbers. We're waiting for the toms to go red and then it will be the apples.
