Minimal Shopping ... and I Didn't Even Pay

We went for a quick coffee and Alan had a sandwich at Booths the other day.

After a nice sit down and chat in the lovely cool of the upstairs café, Alan asked me if I needed any shopping from downstairs.   I only really needed some bread rolls and a couple of bananas, so I got those and added a couple of lovely looking mandarins for good measure.  Alan got himself a pack of the Booths own miniature fresh cream Victoria sponges ... which I suspect was his reason for wanting to go into the shop area all along.  😉

When the receipt pinged onto my phone as we arrived home, I realised that my things when added together were 68p less than Alan's little cream cakes had cost him

Bargain ... and I still have mine, his are all gone!!

It also reminded me that I had a Victoria sponge of my own, left over from this shop.  So that was my treat over the weekend.

Tasty, but very, very sweet. 😀

  1. Morning, have you had your mailing with the final Booth's voucher?

I guess they are aiming to match Sainsbury and Tesco by giving the discount directly at the till but I will miss the vouchers which always feel like a unexpected present.

    1. Yes, it arrived on Friday and happily it is my biggest one ever, I think. One of the few perks of having a hubby with expensive tastes. 😄

I guess we just save as we spend from now on, thank goodness for the freebies and birthday cake.

  2. Oh I wish we had Booth's in Norfolk. So many Northern bloggers extol their virtues (esp the freebies

    1. We are very lucky, do you have a Waitrose? They are almost as good. ❤️

  3. Sadly, no Booths here either. It does seem to be one of the better supermarkets for vouchers and freebies.

    1. We are all currently receiving the last of the vouchers. They are changing to a system similar to Tesco and Sainsbury's, with card holders getting some items a bit cheaper. I'll miss the vouchers, and watching the total expected grow week by week.

  5. I’d rather have had your shopping than Alan’s-I find baked stuff too sweet but still force myself to eat it sometimes! I like the idea of the new Booths system-at least you get your saving as you buy. Catriona

    1. I alway like the idea of a cream scone, but I think the gentle peeling of the mandarin orange is very calming, and of course I have to play the game of getting it all off in one go. 😄

  6. I'd not heard of Booth's until I started reading your blog and down here in Wales we don't have Waitrose 😄

    1. Nope, we also didn't have either in Wales ... but we did have glorious views, home grown veg ... and chickens. 😀

  7. You really did get more for less.

    God bless.

  8. No Booths or Waitrose here either. It's a shame that Booths are changing their rewards system. I think a voucher always seems more like a bonus freebie.
Alan does seem to have a sweet tooth doesn't he!

    1. For a type 2 diabetic he has a very naughty sweet tooth. I despair of him at times, he should go down the savoury path like me.

  9. As the others have already said, I much prefer your shopping to Alan's! Just the thought of cream makes me queasy! xxx

    1. I know what it would do to me if I had it, so I can fight any urge for a cream cake these days. I'd much rather eat a banana. :-)

  10. I love this post and I'm thrilled that you and Alan are enjoying life so thoroughly. But, as a Geordie, I am outraged by those bread buns being called stotties! Xx

    1. They're from a bakery in North Wales, and rather weirdly they were labelled 'baps' last week. Maybe they had stotties wrappers left over. 😄

    1. I always think that cream cakes look lovely, but there's rarely any substance to them. I much prefer something that leaves me with a nice savoury taste in my mouth for a while. A good veggie pasty would be perfect. 😀
