I follow an account on Instagram called One Reset a Day ... 'oneresetaday'. On her account Anna, who is a 33 year old lady living with her father-in-law after a life change for herself and her husband, tackles one small reset a day in or around the house.
She inspired me. 😊
After feeling so bad for so long my place is tolerable, but it hasn't been deep-cleaned or sorted out properly for a while and the thought of all out Spring cleaning was filling me with dread, and yet I do want to make a start on sorting out the nitty gritty before our house move so that it is not all left until the last minute.
So like Anna, I am tackling just one thing at a time.
Today it has been sorting out the fridge and seeing what is in there that needs using now, or dealing with in some other way. First I found the cheese selection pack that I bought for Christmas and never actually opened. Yes, it was out of date but the cheeses all seemed fine, so I set to and grated them all, put them into individual tubs and put them in the freezer. Then I realised that I still had the potatoes, two onions and a couple of carrots from my last Riverford delivery to use up. I am going to make a simple vegetable stew for my tea to remedy this immediately, along with a few lentils this will make a stew and probably a portion of soup for tomorrows lunch too.
Then I will stop and decide what to do next ... just one thing at a time.
Sue xx
You have cheese uneaten since Christmas!! How?
ReplyDeleteGood plan for sorting stuff out - like they say about eating an elephant!
I've been lazy/poorly and just reaching for the ready grated cheese, and I had quite a lot of that. Also I never eat my dairy-free cheese as is, it's always added to things or sprinkled on top of pasta etc.
DeleteYep ... one bite at a time. 😄
Great idea. The Japanese have something similar called Kaizan, though it’s more about changing habits by small, incremental changes that are achievable and last, rather than trying to make a big change that you can’t sustain. Good luck with your plan. Charmaine
ReplyDeleteI just had a read about Kaizan, definitely a very similar principle. I love that everything has a name somewhere in the world. 😃
DeleteIf I were a spring clean person, I would never make it out of the Library (aka the dumping ground) this side of the grave!!
ReplyDeleteWell done anyway. I am sure you will enjoy the vegetable stew. I've never thought of freezing grated cheese.
Doing little jobs suits me at the minute, and knowing that you stop before you get tired or fed up of it is perfect.
DeleteI nearly always freeze my grated cheese. If you don't pack it tight it stays free-flowing, so when you decide on a spur of the moment cheese sandwich it can thaw in the time it takes to find and butter the bread, and there's never any wastage once it lives in the freezer. 🙂
I get easily daunted these days. Maybe I should try that method too. I need to clear and sort out the big fitted wardrobe and I'm really not looking forward to it 🙃

Maybe you could break that job down into smaller sections. The hanging rail, the shelf or drawer etc. Just do one at a time. That's my plan. 🙂
DeleteI like the 'tiny steps' approach, and always take time to gloat over my little window.
ReplyDeleteWin, not window
DeleteI'm terrible for peeping into cupboards over and over once I've tidied them, it's so satisfying. 🙂
DeleteOh, I quite liked the idea of you gloating over a lovely little window 😄
DeleteOne step at a time is a good way to tackle any task, then it doesn't seem overwhelming.
