Sausage Roll ... and Slaw

Remember THIS post when I held my hands up to, and showed you the evidence of, me accidentally cremating a poor lonely sausage roll?

Well I thought I would keep my wits about me this time and cook the other one yesterday.

Review ... they taste exactly the same as they used to when they were slightly smaller and there were four in a box.  The thing is I think my taste buds have changed a bit and I am no longer a fan.

On my plate in the photo is a side of a simple cabbage slaw which is simply, 1/4 of a cabbage shredded, a couple of slices of white onion and a dollop of mayonnaise, all stirred together and enjoyed with ... perhaps even more than ... the sausage roll.

Perhaps I have been seduced by the Greggs vegan sausage roll, which currently due to all the travelling seems to be at the very least a weekly event.  These are ten times tastier than the Aldi cook at home offerings.

I doubt I will be buying the Aldi version on a regular basis anymore.

  1. Oh dear there's nothing worse than a loved food becoming unloved! But I don't think I'll ever not love Greggs Cornbeef Pasty

    1. I bet Alan would love a corned beef pasty, but he seems hooked on the sausage rolls ... meat or vegan ... at the moment. 😄

  2. You can't beat a Greggs sausage roll eaten straight from the bag. I'm sometimes guilty of biting off a bit of the paper, if I'm in a hurry. X

  3. Oh bother! I finally got around to buying a pack of two to try - starting today - now I'm wondering if it will be good or not 😏
I went off Greggs vegan saus rolls, as in Stowmarket they always seem be undercooked.

  4. Iceland sell a selection of Greggs pastry snacks, you might be able to get them in there for your home freezer.

    1. We don't have an Iceland near us. But we went to the one in Fleetwood a few months ago to look for the Greg's pastries, but they had no vegan offerings at all. In fact there was only one small freezer of any vegan foods (apart from the frozen vegetables of course). We came away thinking this must be a really big meat eating area. 🤔

  5. I do like homemade coleslaw. Especially with a bit of carrot grated into it. Apple and raisins are good additions too.

    1. Yes, I usually add grated carrot, but I'm on a push to try variations at the moment. Just carrot and onion slaw is nice too. I think apple would go well in either, but for me raisins cannot go in ... EVER ... it's like finding a dead fly in your salad!! 😄🤣

  6. Thanks for the taste test. I like making slaw as well and popping in fruit and sometimes a touch of curry powder. Catriona

    1. Ooh yes, curry powder, I've not done that for a long time. 😀
