These dinosaurs seem to be in all the garden centres and lots of gift shops this year.
Sue (in Suffolk) mentioned them a couple of weeks ago on one of her posts. This month in Dobbie's they have been added to, and now we have leather jacket, sunglasses wearing guitar playing dinosaurs too.
Will I be buying one, absolutely not, I won't even be buying a cute Highland Cow ... these are also appearing everywhere once again.
But each to their own, and if you want to rush out and buy one while they are on the Black Friday/Week/Month offer, knock your socks off and enjoy your prehistoric Christmas.

I haven't seen any of those dinosaurs in our shops, over here, but, my cousin's grandson, aged 3, is really into dinosaurs and would love to have one. :)
ReplyDeleteI understand that for dinosaur loving children they would be popular. My youngest son was REALLY into dinosaurs for a LONG time, and hopefully they would be handed down and used year after year. But they are expensive, well in my opinion, but then I'm not that into dinosaurs ... or Highland cattle. :-)

DeleteMy grandson has a teddy-dinosaur which is his bedtime cuddly. I did knit it a Christmas jumper and Santa hat last year. But I would not BUY a hideously expensive ornament
ReplyDeleteNow isn't that a much better idea, knitted Christmas jumpers for children's favourite teddy bears. I remember my Mum making Simon a stripey jumper for Christmas and knitting his favourite teddy a little replica, he loved it.

Yes, I have seen all of the above timelines mentioned recently. 'Black Year' really doesn't seem that much of a stretch of the imagination does it!

ReplyDeleteThe Highland cows were all the rage a few years ago weren't they, I was shocked to see them out in force again so soon. I honestly dread to think what next years trend will be, re-using and repurposing what you already have would be a very good one. I live in hope. :-)

I was just looking at them again in the photo. I bet Christmassy hats could be sewn onto virtually any stuffed toy that bombed in the shops the first time it was released, and then re-released to a consumer driven public as the next 'must-have'.

ReplyDeleteWell, the makers and marketers of these dinosaurs have no sense of time or history. Honestly it strikes me as odd to produce something so far removed from both the secular or religous time line of the event. I've noticed in our area the prices of Christmas decorations have gone down. It must be in response to our difficult economic times. Better to sell lots of something rather than have expensive items not moving off the shelf. I'm rather pleased with two nicely made gnome ornaments and a lovely little mouse I got at the garden centre on Monday for a reasonable price. I will attach to gifts for my three youngest grandchildren.
