The slugs have found my lovely bargain Dahlia.
Between them and the greenfly that have decimated my Lupins, this is a very insect heavy garden this year. Last nights torrential rain washed a lot of the greenfly off, but this morning they were all climbing up the plant pot like teeny tiny mountaineers to get back to their free feast. There seems to be a real dearth of ladybirds this year, but then the weather is very random isn't it.
Someone shared their photo of our main High Street in the late evening, on the local Facebook group last week. It's very atmospheric with the moody blue sky isn't it. The bunting goes up every year the week before the Children's Festival, which is the main event here in Spring and remains for quite a while so all the holiday makers can enjoy the atmosphere.
It makes the town look very pretty.
Alan asked me to do another updated walk through of the bungalow now that the first fix electrics have been completed, so here it is for posterity. It's coming along nicely. This week Alan is doing lots of little jobs as we have no builders or trades in. He's enjoying having a bit of a lie in each day with no pressure to get there early to let everyone in. It's been a bit like being back at work for him just recently, having lots of 8am starts while he works alongside the tradesmen.
Next week things will move forward again as the outside of the bungalow and the garage is being rendered in brilliant white,. It's going to look fantastic with our new anthracite grey window frames and the green 'front' door, which along with the French doors in the main room, will also be installed.

The bungalow is coming along well
ReplyDeleteIt really is. :-)
DeleteLooking forward to seeing that lovely exterior of the bungalow.
ReplyDeleteAphids are driving me nuts this year, especially in my super duper new greenhouse, everyday I’m in there with the soapy spray seeking out the pesky critters

I've given up now, they have literally won the war of the Lupins. They are decimated, all the flower buds and stems have been eaten. :-(
DeleteLadybugs love aphids they can eat loads in just one day. If you find any put them on the plant where there is aphids and they'll be very happy.
DeleteYes I know, but unfortunately I have seen just ONE ladybird up to now this year, it's very strange. 🤔
DeleteThat is strange. We saw quite a few ladybirds through winter when they should of been hibernating, I think the milder winter weather confused them. We have seen quite a few in our garden recently. How odd you've only seen one. Nature is affected by so much and it's so sad when it's on the decline. We've hardly seen butterflies they seem to get less and less each year despite us having flowers they love. We have lots of bees though 😁. Hopefully the ladybugs will pick up in your area.
DeleteI've still not seen any more, or come to think of it any butterflies at all yet. It must definitely be too cold for butterflies though. There have been a few bees ... but only a few.
DeleteThe bungalow is looking great, lots of lovely insulation and electrical sockets.
ReplyDeleteYep, and one day soon we will have real walls too. :-)
DeleteI concur, fantastic colour scheme for the outside. Looking forward to seeing it. Not too many bugs in my garden yet but rain has knocked off the blooms on the rhodos which were gorgeous this year.
ReplyDeleteWhat with the weather and the bugs the poor garden is really suffering. Things will hopefully improve soon. 🙂
DeleteOh, those slugs and snails - what a nuisance they can be.
ReplyDeleteThat photo of your High Street is lovely - it has real atmosphere.
xx
It's a struggle isn't it, but I don't want to use slug pellets or spray things. It's a great high street, we are very lucky. 🙂
DeleteCrushed egg shells around the base of the plant pot might deter the snails and slugs or copper tape around the pot apparently they don't like that either.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the children's festival?
Bungalow looking good ☺️ do you have any approximate time frame you'll be able to move in? The work looks like it's making good progress.
I used to have copper tape round all my raised beds back in Wales, it did work briefly.
DeleteThe Children's Festival starts with the crowning of the May Queen at the Market Cross, and a parade of floats around town. Nearly all the town's children are involved via their schools and clubs and includes bands and dancers. Then there's fun, games and races on the playing field and a fair for the weekend in the evenings. Once ours is done all the surrounding areas have theirs, with the Queens representing their town's and villages at each parade. It's very traditional.
The time frame for us moving in is still the same, around Christmas time hopefully. 🙂
My goodness, things are moving right along. Once the electrics are in and the plumbing done you will be in quickly.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
We should be in by the end of December. 🤞😀
DeleteOh its going to be so nice. Thanks for sharing. I like home renovation.
ReplyDeleteSo does Alan. 😄
DeleteIt is looking very Japanese with all those wooden partitions! When Alan has finished yours I am hoping to book him in to tackle a few jobs here!
ReplyDeleteAll looking wonderful.
Haha, they are soon to be plaster-boarded over, thank goodness. 😀 When Alan finishes here he's looking forward to a year of holidays, so that's a no go for your jobs, sorry. 😄
DeleteIt is most definitely a work of art, so very thorough. Well done Alan. June
ReplyDeleteHe's a bit of a perfectionist, how he puts up with me I'll never know. 😄
