Travelling up and down the motorway on Sunday to go and visit Mum we were treated to the full display of mostly British trees giving us their autumnal displays. The colours are just starting to really stand out and it always makes me happy.
We were also treated to the sight of a squirrel having a snack in front of my car before I pulled away from the car park at the care home. I didn't want to disturb him by starting the engine so we just watched ... he was literally 'having a break and having a KitKat'. If you are from the UK you will remember the adverts for that particular chocolate bar, although they never mentioned squirrels!! π
We struck lucky with our 'freebie' timings at Greggs when we stopped at the services on the way home. We had enough on the app to qualify us for a free coffee, a free sausage roll and a free doughnut. It meant we got our Sunday lunch for two people for just £7.10.
Out in our garden everything looks fresh and washed after Storm Amy, the stones remind me of being on Llandudno beach and all the plants seem to have come back to life. Weirdly my Hydrangea has put out another white flower, just as all the others are in their Autumn colours.
A final hurrah to see the season out.
I'm also loving the colour of the leaves on my blueberry bush. It will be a plant pot full of twigs in a few weeks so I am enjoying it while it lasts.
I love seeing the garden readying itself for the Winter, I think we all need to take time to wind down a bit and lay dormant for a while.
Sue xx

When the wind is up outside, stay inside and wind down
ReplyDeleteOh the beauty of the English language. π
DeleteI like the idea of lying dormant and watching the world from a warm room...
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely doesn't it. I'm digging out all my Winter jumpers today, it's definitely getting chilly.
DeleteWent into a local garden centre yesterday and the white hydrangea were in bloom - most confusing.
ReplyDeleteIt seems so random. It's an absolutely perfect flower head
DeleteI think our odd weather is confusing everything inc us lol. We've been seeing butterflies and loads of ladybugs. Given the chill in the air there usually going into hibernation by now. Our weather goes from cold windy and torrential rain to sunshine and relatively warm again. One minute I'm cold and in a warm cardigan the next I'm roasting in it lol. Btw I love the red pink plant in the last photo it's a gorgeous colour π
DeleteCx - Yes, our weather has been just as changeable here. The plant in the last photo is the blueberry bush, isn't it glorious. :-)
DeleteThe blueberry bush is stunning! I'm going to keep my eye out for one of them. The weather's crazy no wonder plants and insects are so confused.
DeleteIt's only this colour for a couple of weeks, it's a bunch of twigs in Winter and green in Summer.
DeleteI love watching the colours in the garden turn to autumn.
ReplyDeleteMy wild fuchsia refuses to stop flowering yet though - it’s the one you see used as hedging in the west of Ireland and I believe Isle of Man. x
Hopefully it will continue to flower for a while. There used to be a magnificent fuchsia in the communal gardens around Mum's bungalow, it flowered pretty much non-stop. Then it got a bit big and instead of a mild prune it was cut right down to almost ground level. It is just about fighting back now and has appeared as a much smaller plant with buds. I don't particularly like fuchsias, but I was dismayed when this one got hacked up.
DeleteI was at Bodnant last week, and a lot of the hydrangeas there had new blooms on alongside the faded ones. Veronica
ReplyDeleteI miss being able to go to Bodnant nearly every week as we used to. The colours and trees change so dramatically don't they.
DeleteI’m so glad that we have the seasons even though they do go slightly awry at times! I do have a lovely rose coming into bloom again!
ReplyDeleteYet, Autumn, for me, is very special and very beautiful. It’s quite warm here ( South Devon) at the moment and so it’s ideal for the garden tidy up.
Enjoy the week! Sal π
I'm trying not to tidy up too much in the garden this year, I'm leaving lots of fallen leaves and old branches for the wildlife. I will have my main tidy up at the end of Winter instead. But, I do need to cut down the old tomato plants now, I'm surprised they survived Storm Amy.
DeleteAutumn can be very contrary - that's part of its charm, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, we are very lucky to have definitive seasons ... even if the edges of them are blurring more and more these days. :-)
DeleteThe blueberries autumn colours are lovely.
ReplyDeleteA very good value lunch, I particularly like the look of the donuts ππ
Alison in Devon x
They knew what they were doing when they gave me a free doughnut for my birthday!! I'm hooked. :-)
DeleteYour pebble garden looks so pretty in the Autumn rain! Im really excited to come back to warm weather and sunshine, I was pottering aroun dthe garden barefoot yesterday, repooting my house plants!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever been in Greggs! xxx
It always looks as though they have been varnished after a good downpour. I bet your houseplants love you, mine are always slightly neglected ... oops!
DeleteOh you definitely need to try the vegan sausage roll, it's a masterpiece of pastry and flavours, even Alan loves them.
I like greggs veggie sausage rolls but always wonder why they never seem as nicely brown as the meat ones, they always look as if they need another ten minutes in the oven.
ReplyDeleteThat app sounds very handy, I just have a little card for the 11th coffee free - problem is I forget I've got it!
It's probably due to the type of fat used in the pastry. Alan says the pastry is actually tastier on the vegan ones. I keep getting those cards whenever we go somewhere new but I rarely fill them. π
DeleteSlowly our trees are changing colour, and the leaves are falling. Still lots of green though.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It's a beautiful time of year isn't it. ππ
DeleteYour autumn garden looks lovely and your blueberry bush is stunning! My blueberry bushes tend to stay green all year long as it doesn't get that cold over here.
ReplyDeleteMine are unusual, they all seem to go different colours, but they all end up as a pot of mostly twigs for the Winter. π
