Some days I get up and have no idea what I fancy for breakfast, I find it so much easier in Winter when most days I am happy with a nice filling bowl of porridge, but I rarely fancy that in the warmer months.
Thanks to the freezer inventory I knew that I had two slices of bread in the freezer, so inspiration suddenly struck and beans on toast was the order of the day.
I can't eat a full tin of beans, and even half a tin is too much these days, so I always divide the tin into three portions. Tipping the beans first into the pan and giving them a stir means that the sauce is distributed fairly between all the portions.
Three of my little pots hold a full tin of beans between them so I just fill two up, pop the lids on and put them in the fridge, knowing that I have the same sized portion left in the pan.
Gosh that made for a nice breakfast.
It's not a meal I have regularly, but when I do I always enjoy it. Perhaps because it is only once every few months it tastes all the better for it. Now I have two more portions of beans to add to other meals over the course of the weekend.
Lovely leftovers once again. 😃

Jacket potato, beans & cheese! That is a perfect way to use up beans!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, that sounds like a good plan for one of the pots 😀
DeleteWe had Branston beans with our meal last night as I need to shop but am trying to put if off til Monday. There may be some more unusual meals over the next two days. Catriona
ReplyDeleteWeirdly I'm not keen on the Branston beans, but so many people that I know swear that they are the best beans ever. 🤔
DeletePorridge for most of the year for me too. In summer I have basic muesli with added porridge oats to make it go further, and some mixed seeds. We have a glass of homemade kefir, and budget fresh fruit, half an orange, half of a small banana, and fruit from the garden. We had a small crop of Tomcot apricots, and have plums and blackberries now, and apples soon.
DeleteIt's funny but since I mentioned porridge I've been fancying it more and more, I think it will be on the menu at least one morning next week. :-)
DeleteLove porridge but not in summer 😀
ReplyDeleteAn occasional breakfast of beans on toast is nice. Nelliegrace above puts me to shame, such a healthy breakfast described by her
Alison in Devon x
It does sounds like a veritable breakfast feast on Nelliegrace's table doesn't it. I'm afraid I can be quite lazy in the mornings these days.
DeleteA very British meal!
ReplyDeleteYes, very British. 🙂
DeleteIt really is isn't it, although I think it's appeal is spreading thanks to the internet. 😀
DeleteDefinitely. 😀
DeleteThat looks like a delicious breakfast. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was simple and tasty, and it really hit the spot. 😀
DeleteIn Germany, hardly anyone would think of eating beans for breakfast. But different countries, different food cultures.
ReplyDeleteMonday through Thursday, we have muesli with fruit or berries from our own harvest, which I freeze during harvest time. On Friday and Saturday, we have bread with homemade jam, and on Sunday, we have rolls with jam and a boiled egg.
This has been a ritual of ours for years. 😊
It sounds like a very good ritual too. ❤️
DeleteYou are the leftover Queen
ReplyDeleteI am trying ... some would say VERY trying. ;-)
DeleteBeans on toast is so underrated. It's delicious. Xx
ReplyDeleteIt really is, especially if you just have it every now and then like I do. :-)
DeleteAgatha Christie got me into ready, aged fifteen. Haven’t stopped reading since. Just finished Loverman by Bernardino Evaristo and The Examiner by Janice Hallett. Loverman I watched on T V and then read the book, so much more in the book, there always is. June UK
DeleteI quite like comparing the differences between the tv or film version of a book and the book itself. I had to reread The Salt Path after we went to see the film, as I thought they hadn't worked through the book quite right, but it was in fact an almost perfect adaptation of it.
