A slightly blurry photo, but isn't it nice to still be able to pick some homegrown tomatoes so late in the year.
The majority of them are the yellow ones now, but a few of the red cherry tomatoes in my hanging basket are still ripening. These gloriously seemingly spur of the moment sunny and warm days are keeping them going. Helped by being in the sunniest part of the garden. I thought I would be making some green onion chutney again, but I've now lost all the green ones to various shades of yellow and red ... which I am quite happy about.
I think a cook up of some lovely garlicky, tomatoey pasta style sauce will be on the cards in the next couple of days. It will be lovely in the dark, short days that will soon be with us, and a nice reminder of the sunnier and warmer days of Summer.
I had made a small panful last week with the pickings from the week before, first we used it for our tea stirred through some pasta, and then the next night we finished it off on some homemade baguette style pizzas. While the oven was on I put in some salt, pepper and garlic powder chickpeas to crisp up as a evening snack to go with a glass of wine.
I might do the same again next time the oven is on for something else, they were very moreish.

I did some chickpeas in the air fryer last night for a snack-must be these dark nights making us need a wee treat. Currently 55p a jar in M and S and the jar is a great size for reuse.Catriona
ReplyDeleteI've seen those jars in M&S, they look good value.
DeleteTwo more of my favourite foods. I adore tomatoes in any form - but roasted are probably my favourite. We seem to eat a lot of chickpeas - Coronation Chickpea is one of our favourite wrap fillings.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've not had Coronation chickpeas for ages, I need to rectify this. 💚
DeleteThose chickpeas sound good!
ReplyDeleteA nice little mildly spicy nibble, and very moreish. 😄
DeleteThe chickpeas, what a great idea, I’m not keen on them ordinarily but roasted sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteI made lots of chutney and tomato chilli jam, sunshine in a jar when the winter is here.

It's good to jar up a little bit of summer isn't it. 🌞
DeleteEnjoy those homegrown tomatoes! I didn't have a good tomato harvest this year, but, my pomegranate tree outperformed itself! We picked over 40 pomegranates this year! Daughter is busy removing all the arils and we'll freeze some to enjoy later.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is a good harvest, the weather is certainly suiting some trees and plants this year isn't it. 😀
Delete"Moreish" is a good word!
ReplyDeleteIt's very descriptive isn't it. 😄
DeleteMy mouth is watering at those toms!
ReplyDeleteI used to eat roasted chickpeas a lot, I haven't for ages, I'm not sure why not, they're delicious! xxx
I have phases where I will eat something regularly and then they slip off my radar for a while too.
DeleteI need to try that with chickpeas. It sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
They are lovely and crunchy, and a bit healthier than eating through a family bag of crisps/chips. 😄
DeleteOh Sue, I'm so sorry to read of Ginger's death. I"ve had an overload of grandchildren holiday duties and haven't had a moment to catch up. Which I have just now. What a wonderful boy he was. The way he befriended your other furry friends was truly special. He leaves a huge hole, and healing will be more difficult with your decision he was the final cat in your lives. We miss our now long-gone cats. Our son developed a pretty severe allergy to cats as soon as he went flatting, so we couldn't have another. There's nothing quite like a warm fur hot purring gently beside - or on - you, is there. You have my sincere sympathy. X X Virginia
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think we are all going through busy phases of life at the minute aren't we. I keep having to do big catch ups on blog reading too. 🙂
