On Wednesday of this week I arrived with Alan's lunch to find that he had cleaned up all the floors that he has been grouting for the last week or so, a knee aching and boring job but one that he has pushed through on. He had also cleaned up my sink and got it, and the toilet ready to install.
I think the original sink and the modern version of the matching toilet go so well together, and in person they look even better than they appear in this photo. I was so happy to see my sink cleaned up and safely in the bungalow, after it has lived at the back of the garage since the very start of all the demolition work risking damage from all the deliveries.
The porcelain tiles laid over all the floors in the bungalow look amazing and will help the underfloor heating radiate so well through the Winter months. Alan still has the living room and dining room areas of our main room to grout and then he will be finished, it's been a tough job.
We also had another delivery this week, one that you can see in this very short YouTube video that I filmed last weekend.
Will it stay all white walls throughout or will you add some colour? You've probably said but I've forgotten. Progress being made anyway but I bet Alan will be glad when he's finished going round on all fours! We had a similar sink to yours. I think we got it, unused, at a car boot sale!
The only rooms that are white are Alan's bedroom and ensuite, he LOVES white. All the rest are already painted cream at my request, perhaps it doesn't show up too well on the photos, but it's a lovely gentle light buttery colour to match the green and cream wallpaper which is being used on wall wall of the living room my bedroom and my ensuite. There is still one more coat of paint to do on all the walls, hopefully that will show the colour better on film.
Thanks for sharing last month’s progress. I’m so glad your sink was saved and your bathroom will be fitted out with lovely personal choices. How can it possibly be October already? Hope you are still on target for a December move. Catriona
It was such a relief to see it in situ, especially as the saved original toilet was accidentally broken. Yes, at the moment we are still on target. :-)
I loved it the minute I first saw it, I have had one like this before in a previous home and the large size makes it very useful. It's big enough to bath a baby in ... or a small dog!! In complete contrast Alan will have a small sink in his bathroom just because of reduced space. He will be allowed to use mine if he needs to.
You've just got to love a classic design haven't you. Alan is going modern with all black accessories and clean lines, I like traditional ... jazzed up with décor. :-)
I used to have a sink like that. These days I go for storage underneath. A couple of people have remarked that they like the shape of our sink bowl but to be honest what I noticed was the three good size drawers under it - and the price 🙄 Did I miss you saying you weren't having the log burner? I'm not surprised. With the underfloor heating and all that insulation it would hardly ever be needed. A bit more space gained. 😁
While I would have loved storage under the sink, finding this beauty in the bungalow and being determined to save it, made me reconsider. Instead I am going to adapt the little drawer unit that I currently have in my kitchen in the annexe to fit under the towel rail in my new bathroom.
Alan wanted the log burner as a back up for heat and cooking during power cuts or emergencies, and for the 'look' of it, but he's not too disappointed. We will save time on constant dusting and money on yearly flue sweeps. We're both happy with the decision.
A definite bonus not having all the dusting - that was the worst part of having a multi-fuel stove. It didn't matter how carefully we used the special lidded ashcan, everything had to be dusted every day. I wouldn't want to go back to that. We've just got one of those little camping gas stoves for emergencies. An outdoor pizza style oven would be good, but we don't have the space. Luckily our bathroom was a disaster when we moved here - they hadn't sealed round the bath properly and it started to go through the floor - so apart from the rather good mirror - saved 😁 - everything else went. When I've seen pictures of my old flat on rightmove my sink that looked like your one, has survived several changes of owner - a timeless design.
Yes, I've got a one burner gas camping ring, and we have a little fire pit with a wire grill top that would be good for baked potatoes etc, if power cuts or the zombie apocalypse arrive. 😄
Yes, it's almost time for curtain poles and curtains, but first we have skirting boards and doors to install and a final coat of paint on all the walls. 😀
The kitchen is beautiful. I love the green. And the wallpaper choice also. I find it interesting that you have your bedrooms facing the front of the house and the street with the living room & kitchen facing the garden (what we would call the back yard.) Here in the US, we'd have our public rooms to the front of the house. Different cultures.
Thank you, I have always loved various shades of green. 💚
We've chosen this layout as the street facing side of the house is darker, whereas the new open-plan living side gets sunshine all day. The street is also very quiet, so there will be minimal traffic noise. With a patio area directly outside the French doors at the back, we will be able to sit out, and eat outdoors enjoying the garden as much as possible. It's a much more sensible layout for how we live.

DeleteI like a nice big wash basin. Some modern ones are silly small.
ReplyDeleteEverything is coming along nicely.
So do I they are so much more useful. I have a feeling Alan's will be 'silly small'.
DeleteIt's looking fabulous. Alan is doing a brilliant job.
ReplyDeleteHe really is, and I make sure to let him know on a regular basis how proud I am of him. :-)
DeleteIt’s really great progress, moving in looks close x
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
We are hoping to stay on track, or even slightly before with a first week in December potential moving date. :-)
DeleteIt is looking really great and coming on leaps and bounds.
ReplyDeleteIt's starting to take shape now that all the boring stuff like building floors and walls has finished. :-)
DeleteWe've got the same loo and sink, we're obviously women with very good taste! x

ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty isn't it, and a 1960s original ... like me. 😄
DeleteIts all looking very good, will you be in before Christmas?
ReplyDeleteHopefully yes, we always seem to move at Christmas time. It's become a family tradition. 😄
DeleteCongratulations and Good Job Alan.
