Isn't this a lovely photograph of a beautiful spot in our town. I asked the photographer if I could share it and he said I could. The river is the River Wyre which snakes its way all through our small town. We are very lucky as well as supporting lots of wildlife, such as the herons and kingfishers, we also have quite a few otters that have returned to the river.
And now, ladies and gentle for your delight and delectation ... yes I am old enough to remember 'The Good Old Days'. I don't know why I loved it so much as a small child, but it taught me the words of a lot of the wartime era songs, which on occasion I baffle Alan with, here's this months walk through of the bungalow.
Alan asked me to do another one at the weekend before he fills in all the interior walls with the insulation. I'll have to have a go at editing all the clips together at the end and make a movie won't I. 😄

I don't know why I talk so softly on these, it must be not wanting to bombard you all with my Mancunian tones in such an echoey environment.

I'm 70 and I loved The Good Old Days - especially Leonard Sachs with his long words (I had been given a love of words and poetry from my mum who died when I was 7). I can still remember lots of the songs ("The boy I love is up in the gallery") and acts (Bud Flanagan was a favourite), as well as those from the sing-song on the coaches from a day out with the Working Men's Club, when all the kids were supposed to go to sleep on the back seats. All the adults used to do their various 'turns' (well-fuelled by a few drinks) and I still find myself singing (in my head) things like "Hold your hand out, you naughty boy", "Who were you with last night", and the one that went "Come inside you silly bugger, come inside", which I found out only recently was about a mental institution.
ReplyDeleteAww, what really lovely memories. I surprised Alan last week when we drove past Linnet Avenue on the way home from Mum's. He asked me what a linnet was ... you can guess what song I sang him the chorus of.

Yes, happy memories but sadly no-one to share them with any more - my brother (who is 6 years older than me) doesn't seem to have any memories of that time. Some of the songs and acts were a bit risque (not that I understood much of it back then) but they were never outright rude. I shall probably be singing that song all weekend now.
DeleteMy brother is younger than me and seems to remember little of his childhood. Well nothing that he will admit to anyway. 😄
DeleteYes I remember the Good Old Days too. I loved the long words, not magician but prestidigitateur, not dancing but terpsichorean delights...Was it there that I learned all the words to "she wears red feathers..." And "my ol man said foller the van"
ReplyDeleteYou really have always loved words and word play haven't you. See the link above to 'my old man' on YouTube. :-)
DeleteI wonder what the younger generation would make of the Good ole Days 😀
ReplyDeleteGreat progress on your bungalow x
Alison in Devon x
It would be interesting to find out wouldn't it. I can't imagine my great grandchildren being as enthralled as I was. The grandsons are all too old to even give it a watch.
DeleteIs it just me or does your new home seem to get smaller each week? It’s becoming very compact….
ReplyDeleteIt really is getting smaller each week, and it wasn't very big to start with.
DeleteNow that we have floors I am higher up when I film, which of course brings the ceiling height down, and the exterior walls are all being internally insulated, so the rooms ARE actually shrinking in size. By the time Alan has finished it may have less square footage than my current home. ;-)
I'm sure I've seen the good old days on a TV channel recently...
ReplyDeleteThe bungalow is looking good. The space seems to shrink as plans turn into reality!
There are a few channels that specialise in showing old shows aren't there. I bet it looks very dated now. By the time we move into the bungalow there will be no room for our furniture ... I better get selling some more stuff. ;-)
DeleteHiya ! I love your little blog. I like the everyday normal it’s relaxing ! Is your lovely new home for you both ? Good luck with it. Jane
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's just my little weird life ... out there for everyone to see. Yes, it's for both of us. 🙂
DeleteDo you live next door to each other now ? It’s like Helens Bonham
DeleteCarter and her hubby ! Sorry I’m being nosey !
You are 😄 We live at the same address but in two separate parts of it.
DeleteYour bungalow is really coming along, nicely.
ReplyDeleteWe're getting there, it's good to see progress. 😀
DeleteLooks like it is really taking shape for you now.
ReplyDeleteWe've definitely moved forward a few steps this week. 🙂
DeleteSome lovely progress on the bungalow, Sue, and the shot of the Heron is stunning :)
ReplyDeleteI must confess though that Alan's sudden appearance at the end of the video made me jump! I had turned away to speak to Graham and turned back to the screen just as Alan appeared ! lol.....
Angie
It was only at the last minute that I realised he was there. He seems to like to try and make me jump. But after all this time I'm used to his wily ways. 😄
DeleteThank you for sharing the progress of the bungalow with us. I really enjoyed watching the video.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see the gradual progress isn't it. 🙂
DeleteLots of progress being made on the bungalow. Nice to see Alan.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
He's popped up a few times now hasn't he, he'll be famous at this rate. 😄
