Aldi 24th January - £9.34
I couldn't let January fizzle out without getting up to date on my spending progress, so here is a quick post showing what else I have bought with this months money since THIS post.
Booths 21st January - £5
I decided that eggs had to be back on the menu, so these were purchased.
Charity Book Table - £1
It was a good month for the finances really, helped in a weird way by us being too poorly to actually go shopping until earlier today ... that food is for next week so was paid for out of my February cash. We didn't need to go shopping any earlier as we had almost a week of living of the tiniest amounts of food so nothing was used up.
I also had to cancel a hair appointment, so I didn't need to take any money out of my little emergency stash.
The cash left over at the end of January was £2.37, which will be added to next months allowance.
Freebies for January included a number of serviettes, a few sugar sachets, a little pot of Flora spread, a tomato ketchup sachet, two free cups of coffee at the garden centre, five bin liners, a vegan sausage roll, a coffee and a doughnut ... all from Greggs, using the app ... and a bag of coffee grounds for the garden, picked up from Booths. Quite a good month for gathering things in and making the budget stretch just a little bit further.
I'll hopefully be back on Monday with a update post on the bungalow, although I can't do a walk around this week as a lot of the floors are missing. 😄
We are both on the mend now, thank you so much for all the well wishes. It's been a tough one though and I wouldn't want to go through that again anytime soon. Ginger also recovered very quickly and is now back to his usual self, thank goodness. 🐱

January seems to have been a month of not being very well for many people. The upside, of course, is that very little food is consumed! Let's hope February will be better.
ReplyDeleteIt does doesn't it, roll on turning the page of the calendar tonight ready for a brand new month.
DeleteGlad to hear you are all on the mend but take care as the virus leaves you really weak.Catriona
ReplyDeleteYes, we've noticed. We ventured out for a bit of shopping this morning and came home like two limp dish rags. That's why I sat down and thought I would try a blog post. :-)
DeleteThe coffee grounds for the garden what a great idea. Glad you are feeling well enough to shop.
ReplyDeleteAlison in Devon x
We both sat and had a coffee in Booths before we braved the shopping bit, it felt strange being back 'to normal'. Now we are fit for nothing, oh well at least I managed a post on here. :-)
DeleteRest up. I'm not surprised you felt wobbly after going out for the first time since taking ill. The fruit should boost your Vit. C levels a bit anyway and the eggs are a great source of protein (a shame I don't enjoy them!)
ReplyDeleteHappily there were satsumas in our Riverford delivery as well, I might even be up to eating one today. :-)
DeleteI've added more eggs to the menu too.
ReplyDeleteI decided that they had to come back onto the menu, but I'll reconsider again regularly.
DeleteSorry to hear you have both been sick with the virus. I somehow missed your last post. Hope you continue to improve and recover completely. It has been a nasty one. We were ill with it too here in the US. Took a couple of weeks to fully recover.
ReplyDeleteWe were expecting it to be a 24 hour bug ... it wasn't although the worst of it was over in 24 hours. I hope you are okay now. xx
DeleteSo glad you are both feeling better and Ginger has recovered. Horrible experience. Regards Sue H
ReplyDeleteIt's been dreadful and is having a knock on effect for both of us this week, but in different ways.
DeleteI always feel a little bit guilty when I read about your savings, because I have never ever thought of taking the unwanted sugar or biscuit, when we've had it with a coffee out. Glad for you that you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteIt's the little things over the years that have really helped me to rein in spending, I think it's just ingrained in me now.
DeleteGlad you are feeling better, we have been laid low here too. You did well on your January budget...it does help the spending not eating...it just shows how expensive food is!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes, if we could give up food for a few days every week we would save a fortune. ;-)
DeleteMorning Sue, so glad that all three of you are on the mend, that must have been horrid. How is your Mum - do hope she did not catch it.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember if you were a reader of "Down To Earth", but this popped up in my Feedly this morning and I thought of you:-

Yes, on the mend but not back to normal ... but then what is normal anyway!! :-)
DeleteMum didn't catch it, but still somehow managed to pass it on to us. Then she was rushed into hospital with a bowel blockage last Monday, the third time in the last six weeks. I have now asked the care home to review her eating plan.
Yes, I read Rhonda's blog all the time and have for years. She's always been on my sidebars, and I have both her books. It's nice that she's back to blogging rather than Instagramming isn't it. :-)
Sorry to hear you've been ill but glad you're now on the mend! Just catching up on blogs and apparently I missed this health drama. Your frugality, as always, is impressive!
ReplyDeleteYes, quite an unexpected little health blip. I think I was frugal before it was fashionable.
DeleteGlad you hear that you are all feeling better. You did really well with your January spending.
ReplyDeleteThank you, it was definitely a good month moneywise.
DeleteGood to hear that you are all recovering.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday voucher for free hot drinks and cakes for two at the garden centre arrived in the post. It is a £12 for the year well spent.
I enjoyed looking at their plants, but popped in to B&Q on the way home and spent £1 on a little pot of tête à tête daffs.
Yes, the birthday treat alone virtually covers the annual cost doesn't it. I end up buying a pot or two of the tete a tete daffodils every year and then transplanting them into the garden when they have finished flowering. It's nice when they pop up unexpectedly all over the place year after year.
DeleteGlad to here you are so much better.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks Jackie. 🙂
